DC/Marvel Character Tourney – Region 4, Round 4 Winner!

The results are in for Round 4 of Region 4!

See who won!

The Flash (Wally West) raced his way to the death of Superman, 592-516. The Flash got 53% of the vote.

I find it shocking that Wally West can make it to the final four and yet DC seems to think he is not a popular enough character to be the Flash. I think he made it further than Barry in this tournament. I am interested to see what Johns is gonna do with Barry, but Wally is and always will be the more interesting Flash to me (and I am old enough to have read Barry’s adventures for many years before Wally took over).

Like this decision or not, you certainly can’t say that these results are predictable!

And this also settles all the “This sucks, all the #1 seeds are going to make it!” complaints.

Hooray Wally! He’s the TRUE Flash, Barry Allen notwithstanding.

He’s also awesome in the old JLU cartoon.

Barry Allen, no respect, no respect at all. Thank you, I’ll be here all week

“I find it shocking that Wally West can make it to the final four and yet DC seems to think he is not a popular enough character to be the Flash.”

It’s not who’s popular with the readers, it’s who’s popular with the nerds in power at the company.

I voted for Wally but I have to say, now I feel sorry for Superman. What an upset.

I hope Wally takes it all, if only so Batman and Spidey can’t rub it in Supes’s face that he got beaten by a former Teen Titan.

It’s not who’s popular with the readers, it’s who’s popular with the nerds in power at the company.

Also, a popular character can’t always overcome unpopular stories. Personally I liked the middle of Tom Peyer’s run and the first couple of issues of Alan Burnett’s, and I even thought Waid’s relaunch was okay if not fantastic — but the stories, the art, and supporting cast didn’t resonate with readers who had already been burned on first Bart’s relaunch and second Bart’s death, and saw DC changing direction every time sales slipped — which was frequently.

You guys don’t know me. Stop saying I suck if the only reference you have are comics from 25 years ago that you didn’t even read…

It amazes me that Superman can lose post-ASS, though to be fair, I don’t know anything about the Flash.

@Argo Plummer- Small sample size.

Superman is the most beloved and most powerful hero of all time. Let’s meander for a moment….near invulnerability, incredible strength, flight, heat vision, freeze breath, etc….
All the flash can do is run fast. Not as fast as Kal-El.
Supes would clearly dominate.

Looks like there was an obvious Flash fanboy out there that skewed the vote.

It was not a “who would win in a fight?” thing, The Doctor.

@The Doctor: If you’re referring to me, let me say for the record that I only voted once.

Also, for the record, the Flash’s power isn’t to run fast, it’s to be fast. Running is far from the only application of speed: classics include creating whirlwinds, dismantling weapons while the villain is still aiming, hitting someone thousands of times a second or just once while moving at relativistic speeds, moving too fast to be touched by fire/bullets/etc., running across water or up the sides of buildings. Then factor in things like vibrating through solid objects, lending/stealing speed, etc…

All that said, as Brian pointed out, it’s not “who would win in a fight?” it’s “who is your favorite?”

Hurray for this surprising but pleasant upset!

Now if only he could get his own Morrison/Quitely miniseries.

So, wait, Wally West and Steve Rogers won? Seriously, my favorite characters from each company won? And yet neither currently are starring in their own series? Something isn’t right in the real world.

All-Star Flash? I haven’t read the others– I feel that Superman and Batman have more than their fair share of “timeless” stories, anyhow– but that sounds pretty awesome.

It’s down to the lobbying at speedforce.org – voter turnout is the key!

Wally is faster than Kal-El, he can break the light barrier.

He’s supposed to be faster than Barry as well, but that appears to be being overlooked by DC at the moment.
And I don’t see why Wally can’t still be the Flash-you’ve already got 2, why not 3? There’s 2 Wildcats, 2 Green Arrows, and as wIldcat points out in JSA, a whole bunch of Green Lanterns. Seriously-what’s the count on Green Lanterns?

Wally’s made a great showing so far. If he can get to the finals, he can win it all!

I’m pulling for Wally to win it all!

“And I don’t see why Wally can’t still be the Flash-you’ve already got 2, why not 3?”

Well, we don’t know if that’s going to happen or not (Kyle’s back to being a GL, for instance, even if he’s not the one with a solo title).

As for this poll… yeah, small sample size accounts for a lot. Watch – Wally will be closer to Batman or Spidey than any rational thought would lead you to believe. Doesn’t mean he’s got the sales potential of either, however.

Craziness. I thought superman winning his region was a foregone conclusion.

Go Flash!
