Once again, you’ve made me laugh out loud. This time it was this line:

I don’t seem to like boys’ love comedies at all, alas, so I think I should probably sit this one out.

*nods* I really think 13 year old girls would LOOOOOVE this, particularly some of the ones I’ve interviewed for my research. I remember also wanting to be perceived as consuming “adult” oriented reading fare when I was a teenager as well….now that I’m about to turn 29 I now enjoy books aimed at teens more than ever (i.e. most shojo manga!).

Prairie dogs *are* cute. You can’t help that. And yes, I think you did make those things clear. I think that sometimes publishers underestimate younger readers, though. For instance, I think I probably would have much more patience for this title *now* than I would have as a teenager when I required everything to be deep and meaningful. Heh. On the other hand, I might have enjoyed this as a pre-teen, but of course they’re rating it older than that. It’s tricky.

Like I said, cliche central and yet I laughed (damn Prairie dogs…why do I think they are so cute?!)….but I think it really is a book aimed at a younger audience, which I tried to make clear.

Oh dear, it sounds like all the things I like least about boys’ love (and shojo manga) wrapped up with a bow. Yet, I feel like I should trust your assessment of it as inoffensive and cute. Hmmmmm. In any case, great review!
