Just dipping in to say thankyou for the review, Greg! I’ve linked to it in my blog on the Ariel Press website. Issue Two is very much available right now – you can order it directly from us on the website, or download it as a pdf, and issue three and four (both already finished) will be out on the first of May and 1st June respectively, and monthly there on. I’m glad you liked it!

Giarusso is one of my favorite creators in comics today, & I’m hoping my latest Lone Star Comics order arrives today — it contains the Mini-Marvels: Secret Invasion digest (which for some reason never showed up among the listings at Amazon or Books-a-Million, which tend to be where I buy trades … Barnes & Noble isn’t an option, of course, because that company is unfortunately engaged in helping finance Rush Limbaugh’s daily recreations of the Nuremberg Rally, but so it goes).

And like Ian A, I’ve got Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectacular on order from Heavy Ink. (Same with Hotwire #2, for that matter. They didn’t seem to have #1 in stock at the moment, so I’ve ordered it from … ummm … somebody. Mile High. Obviously, I’ve not yet gotten over my fear of having any spare change left in my pocket before my next pay day.)

As for Noble Causes … yeah. What you said. I’ll really miss it, though the whole 5-year jump awhile back never really worked for me (& maybe not for Jay Faerber, given the series’ ending). In retrospect, I’ve decided that my (& others’) bitching about the perceived overpricing of the annual that came out a year or so ago is to blame for Faerber’s loss of enthusiasm for the title & characters, so in penance I’ll never, ever not buy anything he does.

And Agents of Atlas — you’re right, of course: The flashback stuff leaves the present-day sequences in the dust. *sigh* This Dark Reign banality is tainting this comic & 2 of the other 3 mainstreamish Marvels that I buy — Hercules & Deadpool (excluding only Iron Fist … though since I haven’t yet gotten around to reading the most recent 2 ishes, for all i know it’s muddying the waters there, too)– & I’m hoping it ends soon or I’ll be dropping them for the duration.

Michael: I hate to not let this go, but it’s the Internet, where we can never let anything go! Osborn, presumably carried there by someone with superspeed, is standing with his hand in his pocket, not a thread out of place. If he was carried there by the Sentry, he’d be a bit more disheveled. Again, when I read it, I knew what happened, but it simply seemed that Parker wanted to make a joke about the Sentry throwing Temugin into the river and didn’t quite know how to get there. You know what happened, I know what happened, but the way it was presented was sloppy. Of course, I’m not going to convince you, so that’s that.

Filrouge: I’ve read some of the Mini Marvels in the backs of the comics when they appeared, but never the digests, as I haven’t seen them around. I always enjoyed the Mini Marvels, but this story is much funnier than the ones I’ve read. I agree with Wraith – maybe Giarrusso is getting TOO GOOD?!?!?!?

Didn’t know that about “archeology.” I looked around a bit but didn’t see the alternate spelling. Oh well!

I don’t think Morrison has anything specifically AGAINST beards, but he does seem to have an obsession about them. Someone needs to study this!

your review of the Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectacular seems to imply that you’ve never bought or read the two Mini Marvels digests that are out there. Seeing how you enjoyed this story, you really should seek them out, especially the second one, I think it was called “Secret Invasion”, that contains, among other very fun parts, a story where Hawkeye buys magic beans and face Galactus and another one which tackles Thor’s return after Avengers Dissassembled.

Mini-marvels are always fun, and the Assistant-Sized Spectacular looks like a blast. “Archeology” is absolutely as correct as “archaeology.” I keep two resumes on file, depending on how the company I’m applying to spells it.

I am going to pick up some Noble Causes at some point. It’s always sounded good.

I will pick up the Seaguy trade. I might start getting the Scalped trades, too. Is it going to be part of the crime line? It would be a good anchor, especially as an ongoing. Sort of like Sandman when Vertigo itself formed.
