I like the whole set of panels from when they lean in to kiss. For me, that’s the moment. A nice, fun scene, that still stays true to Cap and his history with Sharon.

Cap vs a whole army was kind of dumb. I wish I was American, maybe then I’d find these Cap moments much cooler.

Garney had something pretty much all the early Image output had – the ability to tell a story visually, rather than just draw a random sequence of pinup images.

One of the best issues in Waid and Garney’s second run is (I think) #4, where he has to rescue a submarine. The last page of that issue packs a huge wallop for me. I don’t want to spoil what happens in this initial post, but, gee it’s good

I personally feel very nostalgic about this run because I grew up reading it. I was about 14 when this run hit the stands and I only caught the tail end of it, the “Man Without a Country” part. I had to wait ten years before I read the first part of the story. To me, it was worth the wait.

Plus how awesome is it that he doesn’t kiss her? Always leave them wanting.

For me, the “moment” is toss-up. It’s either “I don’t see why not” or “Meanwhile, I’ll hold off the army.”

As I’ve said before, these issues stand out from just about anything else being done at the time.

They may not be the greatest Cap stories of all time, but in the context of the time they were absolutely brilliant.
Especially compared to what immediately followed them.

I don’t know, there’s just so many things that came out in the 90′s that don’t look like they came out by the original Image. Mostly not from Marvel, but them’s the breaks.

Also, Cap vs. an army is a little generic and looks like something that would be on a Fox cartoon. Why don’t we just have 365 days of guys lifting something huge or throwing something far or beating someone big?

This run on Cap is about the strongest example of ’90s comics you could find. Sorry if it doesn’t ‘inspire’ you, but i would wager that most of us totally dig this stuff.
If this run doesn’t excite you, what ’90s comics would you give as examples of ‘great runs’ or ‘great moments’?
i’m sure that there are others out there. Thanks!

yeah, I’ve tried reading this run and it’s just too 90′sish. I agree with Craig. And these moments all just seem to be Captain America posing and someone saying “He’s a legend” not literally but with that effect.

Although I agree about not feeling it for these Cap moments, it is not the 365 best moments. It’s just 365 cool moments.

Sorry, I’m not getting all the love for this week’s moments. This just looks like pretty weak 90′s era stuff to me. I didn’t collect it the first time and this doesn’t inspire me in any way to go try to find it. In 70 years’ worth of comics, does this week’s entries really constitute 1/73rd of the all-time coolest moments in all those comics? I don’t think so.

dmor173: The trade collecting the whole run’s been out for a while. You should pick it up. I just got a used copy a couple of months ago and had a lot of fun with the book. I’d read about half of it when it first came out, and these stories stand up a lot better than most Marvel items of that era.

Then along came Liefeld.

One year later, Waid and Garney were back on the title for their second stint.

I wouldn’t blame Sharon for being crossed with Cap. He never asked Fury to see the body or visit her burial site. They just showed him a video of Sharon burning to death and he moved on to Bernie Rosenthal soon after that. Cap is a heel when it comes to his women.
