Viz Posting New Rumiko Takahashi Manga
In case folks didn’t know, Viz is sharing free on-line versions of Rumiko Takahashi’s manga RIN-NE here. The first chapter is already up, better check it out now while you can (my understanding is that these chapters won’t be available indefinitely, perhaps a period of a few weeks?). Anyway, future chapters will also appear at the website, within a day or two of their release in Japan.
This coincides with welcome news posted to The Rumic World blog: “As we unveil Rumiko Takahashi’s newest manga series RIN-NE on this site, we’re also pleased to announce some exciting news about her classic manga series Inuyasha. Starting with volume 38 (which will be released in July), we’re publishing the series the way it was originally drawn, from right to left, and releasing the graphic novels monthly.
VIZ Media also has VIZBIG 3-in-1 editions ($17.99) of the entire series on the way starting in November, also in the original unflipped format! For more Inuyasha-related products, visit the Inuyasha store.”

Being British, as soon as I saw ‘Viz’ I expected lots of swearing in the traditiion of Fat Slags, Roger Mellie etc. I was naturally very disappointed.

I dunno, padded may be a bit harsh. I do admit, I never got past the first volume of Inuyasha because it was pretty boring. But some of her earlier work is very very nice, and if this new manga reflects her earlier stuff, then that’s fine by me.

In which case, you don’t have to read it, and can just be happy for the continuing precedent of free digitally distributed comics ( American or Japanese ).

Yes, Nitz, that is my outlook on the whole thing! Viz may now be on the cutting edge of this kind of distribution plan…we’ll just have to watch and see how this whole thing works out.

I just ran across the website, and it seems like a good deal, but I went to do my due diligence before buying, and I couldn’t find too many reliable forums on whether it is worth it or not.
It is supposed to be the best selling ebook ever, but I don’t know anyone who’s bought it. It’s not that expensive and he does offer a money-back guarantee if you don’t like it, but I just want to be sure before buying!
