Many thanks for the kind words and wonderful review. My “mission statement” with the comic book was to make every issue accessible to a new reader. And that you could enjoy the story in an issue picked up at random, without being aware of the characters or their backstories, is heartening, indeed! One thing I want to stress, though: the Wolff & Byrd comic book (re-titled “Supernatural Law” with issue #24) continues. The book is up to issue #45. And there is also a webcomic version, with new episodes in color every Monday and Thursday on http://www.supernaturallaw.com.

Wolff & Byrd used to run in Comics Buyers’ Guide for a while; honestly, I’m a tad surprised you never heard of it before now. *Shrug* Ah, well, at least you had a pleasant surprise.

On a semi-unrelated note, W&B creator Batton Lash also wrote the classic “Archie Meets the Punisher”, another pleasant surprise.

I have 3 issues of this series and liked them well enough. I think I picked up a few issues since it was nominated for Eisners or something. But I couldn’t find any more issues in my area of the world at the time. And I quit collecting comics altogether soon after so it was a moot point. I’m surprised you never heard of Wolff & Byrd. When I first heard of the recent She-Hulk series, it sounded to me like W&B with superheroes.

I read an issue of this; Wolff and Byrd were defending the Toxic Crusader, I believe. I thought it was amusing, but had that same cheesy vibe as all those Archies with special celebrity guest stars.

I wanted to like it, but it just wasn’t for me. I admire Lash for doing what he loves, though, and wish him all the success in the world.

Another special thing about this issue is that the lawyer Zachariah Winkel is based on Max Bialystok in “The Producers” (as portrayed by Zero Mostel), while Thornton is based on the Leo Bloom character (as portrayed by Gene Wilder; Jerome Thornton is actually Gene Wilder’s real name). There are many layers to these stories!
