hi Andrew! Ooku is a josei title based on a kind of Japanese alternative-history, in which men are dying off in large numbers thanks to some form of plague. Ooku is about the men of the Shogun’s “inner chamber” who are carefully protected because they are valuable source of reproduction in post-plague world (this is my basic understanding of the story). Yoshinaga is an amazing creator, her Antique Bakery and Flower of Life are instant classics, she has such a sharp sense of the human condition and can do so much with the “slice of life” format that I really want to see how she approaches this topic.

Danielle, can you tell me a little more about what Ooku is about? I don’t know anything about it, but I noticed that Viz has it listed under their signature line rather than their shoujo line. The three-sentence description in Previews makes it sound shoujo/yaoi-esque, but doesn’t give any kind of detail. I’m curious because you’re so excited about it…

As for me, my manga purchases from the new Previews will include

Berserk v31 from Dark Horse

Negima v23 from Del Rey

Dance In The Vampire Bund v4 from Seven Seas

Trinity Blood v11 from Tokyopop

and Black Lagoon v7 and 20th Century Boys v4 from Viz

Gunsmith Cats Burst v4 from Dark Horse also looks tempting, but the long delay between volumes has tempered much of my interest in the book…
