A Year of Cool Comic Book Moments – Day 137
Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far!
Today we take a look at another offbeat Preacher scene…
Enjoy!
In Preacher #27, Herr Starr is regrouping after suffering a defeat at the hands of Jesse Custer (with an assist from the Saint of Killers). Starr also received a head wound from Custer, so in Preacher #27, by the dynamic duo of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Starr is regrouping after the incident (which did, at least, result in Starr becoming the head of his organization via his killing of the former leader)…

Good ol’ Starr.

Starr’s one of the great comic book villains of all time.
Not only is he unspeakably evil, but he talks the way a real villain would talk in real life: lots and lots of profanity.
How many mulit-trillion dollar installations have the likes of Magneto or the Leader or whomever seen destroyed, and nary an f-bomb from any of them?
With Starr, when the shit hits the fan, he will say “shit”. And much worse.
What’s the point of being “bad” otherwise?

One other great moment related to this one is when he tries on different hats to cover his (penis-shaped) wound
I can’t believe I just wrote that sentence. That’s why I love Ennis so much!

The tail end of Preacher was just ways to humiliate and hack away at Herr Starr. At one point he has to wipe some guy’s butt in order to escape from being confined. “Wub.” ‘Wub.” “Wub.”

This was a great moment, but I was totally expecting it to be when he tries on all the different hats. Cracks me up every time.

Nine panels of staring at himself in the mirror. And all he can say is “shit.”
What else could be said?

One of the funniest things in Preacher is how in the end Starr totally discards his masterplan for the planet Earth and merely wants to kill Jesse to avenge his lost penis.

As much as Ennis doesn’t seem to like superheroes sometimes, he really dicks over the bad guys too. Starr and Ma Gnucci find each other.

My favourite Starr moment is “Walkway not a fucking Standway! Walkway not a fucking Standway! Walkway not a fucking Standway! Walkway not a fucking Standway!”
