I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to procure this comic book. Gorgeous JH Williams art with Todd Klein's awesome pulp lettering, *and* the Elongated Man? Not to mention the only Grant Morrison story of the 21st century I haven't read? NEED NEED NEED

Dan, I definitely agree. Ross's cover just sort of blends together and isn't nearly as striking.

Why do I suspect Silver Age writers fried a lot of ants with their magnifying glasses?

I think that Infantino cover works a lot better than the Ross one. The explosion looks more violent, and I like making the mushroom cloud the focus. The affected city seems smaller, but that illustrates fragility in the face of a devastating weapon, which I think serves the cover idea better than a perspective that focuses on the city itself. On Infantino's cover, I initially read it as a giant hand holding a magnifying glass over a city. It wasn't actually what happened, but I never was able to really understand the scene on Ross's cover. Also, I can see that it's Adam Strange on the cover, and my eyes aren't strangely drawn towards his quads.
