@FunkyGreenJerusalem: Yeah, I agree that Ennis is amazing at telling war stories (and comics, period). My personal favourite is "D-Day Dodgers". That ending still brings a tear to my eye.

I never made it to the end of the first Ghost Rider trade.

I really wasn't enjoying it that much.

Dude: I'll probably end up getting Ghost Rider in trades, because besides the Huat arc, which made me drop it, Aaron has, apparently, done really well. I mean, I loved his first arc with Boschi on art, and now that Moore's on board, it sounds like it's back to being batshit insane, and Boschi will be back for his final arc. So the Huat arc seems like a minor hiccup in what is probably going to be a great run.

"Well, sorry, Mr. Curran, but I don’t know enough about the character of Madame Xanadu to know if her making out with another woman is anything unusual;;;"

Oh? You trying living for centuries on end and see if you don't want to try something different every once in a while.

Did 'Dear Billy' sell in the millions and win every award the comics industry has?
If not, then damn us all as fools.
That was Ennis' best war story since 'Nightingale'.
I mean, every war story the guy does - with the exception of 'The Rifle Brigade' - is a cut above, but Dear Billy really was superb.
Peter Snejbjerg, always good, did the best I've ever seen from him.

I love The Incredible Hercules like I loved Captain Britain, so although I love it every time I read it, it's like being with a girl you're pretty sure is going to catch on that she could do better and leave you at a moments notice, so I have trouble throwing my self into it without reservations... but those times I do read it, it makes me tingly all over.

I've enjoyed Moon Knight in the first three trades, but I keep waiting for it to kick up a notch - it seems more interested in looking back then moving forwards... every time I think 'Right, we've dealt with the past, so now it's ready to go' it just dawdles around stuff we've already seen.
I like the general feel and tone, but characters from previous series - or people somehow related to them - just seem to hang around the book, not really adding anything.

I've found "The Great Fables Crossover" to be largely a waste of time. Is The Literals going to be an ongoing series? It couldn't have gotten a worse kickoff, I say.

Although I like Kaluta's pencils, his art gets rather overwhelmed by the color in the interior of Madame Xanadu. He could use an inker with a heavier line there. Al Vey, for instance, who did a great job on Perez' pencils on The Avengers a decade ago, and who I think would be more sensitive to Kaluta's pencils than, say, a Tom Palmer sort (though Palmer's obviously a great inker for other artistic styles).

Oddly, the inks on the cover look fine, but the composition seems downright weird.

Is it just me, or did it seem like nearly every good Marvel book came out this week?

Greg,I know your reasons for dropping Ghost Rider , but I really think you're missing out. Jason Aaron is going crazy on that series and I think years from now people might just call his run one of the best (if not the best) Ghost Rider run ever.

Also, I know Bendis is not responsible for Moon Knight getting cancelled but seriously, screw that guy

Dan: When I was looking for links for Hader and Meyers, I realized they wrote for SNL. As I never watch the show, I had never heard of them. Hero Squared is definitely better than Planetary Brigade. But I'm not sure if that's enough for you! And that's the keen thing about Northlanders. On the one hand, it's about two Vikings beating on each other. But Wood subtly changes the game, which is keen.

I missed your use of "meat-and-potatoes," Tim. Pistols at dawn, I guess. So sad!

Andrew: No, I don't know the story with Moon Knight's cancellation. I just know it hasn't been solicited, and I don't know what that new thing in Previews is. It's a bit frustrating, because this doesn't "feel" like a final issue. Maybe I'll have to do some digging.

Stephen: I know that Maguire doing Spidey sounds a bit weird, but there's enough of Peter Parker in any given Spidey book (not to mention the supporting cast) that it would work, plus Maguire is very good at the light comedy that Spidey books should bring to the table.

- "it’s great to see Maguire doing a Spidey book. He’s really born to draw Spidey"

I don't know - the guy known for the best facial expressions in comics doing a character whose face is covered at all times seems a bit of a strained marriage. It was still fun, but I liked Maguire's other recent stuff (especially that awesome Batman Confidential story) more than this one.

- re Batman Confidential, agreed on the cookie-cutter formula (did DC just want to set a story in Spain to help with international distribution or something?), and while I buy Batman having multiple Batcaves in Gotham, and having a costume stashed away in a train station locker or something in every major city in the world is fine... having a Batcave in every major city in the world (which is what this issue was implying)? That's a bit much, even for the prepared for anything version of the character.

Does anybody know what the story with Moon Knight's cancellation is? I don't remember issue #30 being solicited as a final issue, but I got suspicious when I didn't see any more issues solicited after that.

I noticed the latest Previews has a listing for some free comic called the "MOON KNIGHT SAGA." Unusual timing for such a book unless MK is getting another re-launch/re-boot??

I used the "meat-and-potatoes" line in my review for Batman Does Barcelona, too. But I used it for the art, not the writing. Is that your attempt to avoid plagiarism? Shifting the silly cliche phrase over to the writing? Well, it will not work, sir. I am calling you out!

Also, Moon Knight's cancellation does not fill me with joy. I just wish they had a better writer on it that series.

I'm sure everyone will tell you, but I happen to be first: Bill Hader and Seth Meyers are writers/actors on Saturday Night Live, and the song is Beck's "Where It's At."

Godland is awesome, isn't it?

I read Giffen and DeMatteis' Planetary Brigade and was really unimpressed, so I don't think I'll bother with Hero Squared.

I pick up the first trade of Incredible Hercules partly on your recommendation and enjoyed it pretty well. It did a good job mixing in mythological tales. Has that kept up?

Those are some good looking rabbits on the Mouse Guard cover.

The Northlanders review makes me want to pick up the book. "Wood uses this issue, like he’s used others, to illuminate the utter foolishness of violence," is not what I expected from an issue comprised solely of Vikings hitting each other.

Enjoy California!
