Not surprising that Breitweiser would pick Hardman, as I believe his wife is currently coloring his work on Agents. Or some of it, at least, I think. It looks like a lot of changes in the art team over the next couple issues.

I think that the factors that there are probably three factors that tend to keep certain creators away from top titles:
1. Exclusivity contracts. If you are a Marvel exclusive guy and the slots at the top titles are filled by established creators, then you have to get into line. You can't suddenly jump to DC when the Batman gig opens up.
2. On the other side, non-exclusive guys are not going to get the first look at something unless they are plugged into another higher profile creator. So, it becomes a networking thing. The quickest way up for an artist to to become a preferred partner for Geoff Johns, or Brian Michael Bendis.
3. Speed. Creating dynamic, super creative lay-outs takes time for most people. The X-Men gig probably doesn't just get offered to a non-brand name person. It is probably a last minute fill-in. A stressed out editor isn't going to call a freelancer who is famous for being slow for a last minute fill-in for the X-Men.

That is why I think what Brian is doing here is awesome. The only thing working against those three forces are fans.

It's all beautiful. I agree, this guy should be drawing something -- anything -- by Brubaker. Or anybody else who could keep up wth him.

It's probably a blessing he's not higher profile. I'd hate to think of him being wasted on some big-event crap by Jeph Loeb or something.

It amazes me that guys like this can't get work on an A title book, when there are people who copy for a living that get cherry jobs.

Hmm... the form thinks I'm "Sean Shapiro" today...

Nice choice. I'm not familiar with the guys art, but he looks like he'd be a good fit on Brubaker's Captain America run

Hardman, like the other Black Coat artist Francesco Francavilla, always strikes me as someone who draws on all the right parts of both Alex Toth and John Severin. An amazing artist.
