I'm delighted to say i actually own one of those Hellblazer pages.

Sean is a obviously a fantastic artist in how he executes various techniques, but what's less obvious is how much work must go into his storytelling, layout, design, etc. He's firing on all cylinders. One of the most interesting artists working these days for sure.

I love seeing the fact that the artists that other artists look to are all creative and original, and do not come from the Land school of photorealism.

I spent a good chunk of time discussing his techniques with him at NYCC. Seeing scans or even printed pages doesn't really convey some of the really amazing textures in his work. To this day, he is the only artist from whom I own an original page. It is from an unpublished Teen Titans story, and depicts Robin and Ravager fighting the Rogues. It's also only 2/3 the size of a regular page, which is extremely impressive considering how much detail is on it.

Fuck yes.

Murphy is amazing. He started out great and has only gotten better. He, like Skottie Young, actually, has really come into his own lately, loosening up his style and including all manner of techniques (benday dots! spatter! thumbprints!) to achieve the best possible results.

I absolutely can't wait for Joe the Barbarian and his next Hellblazer run.

man, these Artist's Choice choices are really hitting some of my favorite artists out there. i hope at least one of the artists doesn't just pick a penciler and selects a colorist or letterer. but anyway, about Murphy, i loved his work in Crush, which was an AWESOME mini from Dark Horse a few years ago.

Although having read his description of it on his website I really hope it's not a sympathetic IRA story unless. I can't stand how they, of all murderers, can be romanticised in popular fiction so much.

I first saw his stuff in the house of mystery issue where he did the side story. Since then I've been trying to find all of his stuff. Wish I could find a copy of Off Road that wasn't 100 bucks.

His earlier stuff reminds me of Vertigo era Chris Bachalo. The more recent stuff is going off in its own direction. Let's no one hires him to draw the Hulk before his style has its own fan-base.

"WOW, those most recent pages are absolutely stunning."

Uh, I'd have to agree with that.

Those pages of Hellblazer, were the ones written by Jason Aaron, weren't they?

Why in the HELL, Vertigo, didn't get those two together for the next Hellblazer creative run after Diggle, is beyond me.
