Also, I meant to leave my name as Kid Chris, not Kid Chis... which I could only assume is a child of one of those Star Wars expanded universe species.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone! And I'd like to think we're not so much "shabby" as we are "charmingly ramshackle!"

I live about 2 hours (or so) away from Ventura (in Bakersfield), and my friend & I, along with my 6 year-old son, made the drive to Ralph's for FCBD. Mike and his crew throw a heck of a party. All three of us left satisfied that day. Of course, that's pretty much true of every trip we make to Ralph's. It's probably for the best that this isn't my LCS, because I'd likely spend EVERY WAKING MINUTE there...

I've been a customer at Ralph's for at least 10 years, and really like the store. Mike is a gem of a guy (a seething cauldron of snuggles, even), and he consistently hires staff who are personable and knowledgeable. If the store may look a little 'shabby', it is well maintained, and noticeably lacking in what my wife calls 'gamer funk'. Mike has introduced me to many many new and interesting comics over the years, and helped me stay enthused about comics even as my tastes have changed (used to read lots of DC superhero stuff...now read mostly Vertigo, horror, mystery, just about any genre but superhero).

I lived down the street from Ralph's for almost four years (actually, as I write this, I'm visiting an old friend in Ventura who just happens to live within eye sight of the place).

I used to buy singles on a regular basis, but I switched to trades (mostly) while I lived in Ventura, both because of cost and changing tastes, but for each I knew I could go to Ralph's and find just what I needed (wanted).

Anyways, I've lived in a lot of towns, and been through some pretty dire shops, and Ralph's lies easily to the top of my list. I leave Ventura in the next couple days, and have a pretty full schedule until then, but after reading this, I think I'll have to make some time to come in, and maybe buy a thing or two.

To Ralph's.

Holy moly! When I was growing up I would a couple weeks every summer with my grandparents (who lived in Ventura), and I would always get my grandpa to drive me to Ralph's Comic Corner (I found it listed in the Yellow Pages). What a great store.

I wish I travelled more so I could visit shops around the country. I've only been to a handful of them but easily the best wasn't even in the country. I've only been out of the U.S. once and it was to visit a cousin who was living in London at the time. One of my "MUST SEE" stops was Mega City Comics. I wish I had more money on that trip because I would have loaded up on stuff.

Seems like a nice shop.

I keep meaning to talk to the guys at my LCS about doing a photo shoot. I jokingly refer to it as "Wal-Mart for Comics Geeks", because of the immense size of the place. One of these days....

Ralph's happens to be my local comic book shop. Good selection, great staff. I started going years ago to pick up my issues of Ninja High School and VHS releases of Ranma 1/2.

Mike name-checked your co-bosses at Boom!, sir, when he was talking about cool people in the industry and how he tries to reach out to publishers to get their product into the consumers' hands. I'm sure he'll appreciate you giving it some love!

On the road, I stopped in here one morning last December for my Wednesday fix and was gobsmacked by the selection. Easily one of the ten best comic shops I've ever visited. I LOVE this store.
