Regarding the Exiles, I believe Nocturne spent some time on earth-616. There have been a few adventures and people from there as well. Namora, Beak, Psylocke and Proteus I believe all came from 616 as well.

I'm with you Greg-my biggest complaint with X3 was the mis-handling of Cyclops. I mean, fine, kill him off, but at least acknowledge it! I spent the whole movie wondering if he was dead or not (since, if he was dead, surely, ONE of the characters, at least, would remark on it and some point). It wasn't until his tombstone was shown briefly at the end that I said, "well, I guess that means he died way back at the beginning."

I'd heard it was because Marsden jumped ship for Superman Returns. I've also heard he was written out because Halle Berry would only come back if she was given more to do, so Cyclops was written out so Storm could do all the pro-mutant, team leadership stuff he'd have done. Personally, I like to believe the latter explanation, mainly because I did not like Halle Berry at all in the X-Men movies and making her responsible for Cyclops' poor showing is more fuel for the fire. ;)

I wouldn't say I HATED the movie, but I was terribly disappointed by it. Especially since there were parts of at least three good movies crammed in there somewhere. They just didn't have enough room to breath (a problem that also befell Spidey 3).

Wait. Emma Frost was used by Morrison because he couldn’t get Colossus? Seriously? Am I the only one who finds that- I dunno, petty? “Oh, they won’t let me use X character? Well, then I’ll change Y’s powers and use HER so I can have my superstrong character, SO THERE!” Not to mention that, regardless of how interesting it was, having Emma break up Scott and Jean made little sense (and again, also comes out as somebody’s whim rather than good writing.) I’m now glad I never bothered with Morrison’s X-Men run.

I'm not going to "how dare" you, but I think it would help to actually read the story. Supposedly, he originally wanted Colossus, yes-- but I don't see how, considering how Emma was the most fascinating character of the whole run, and integrated as well as she was. And the break-up makes sense in context, which you would know, had you actually read the actual story.

Re: Wolverine's claws, according to Wolverine: Origin (the first one) his claws are natural but he only grew them as a teenager, in the night his father was killed, exactly as seen in the movie, except the movie omits Rose, a redheaded girl who was there to- explain his taste for redheads, I guess. It also makes Sabertooth his brother, which *may* be true in the comics as well (but was certainly not confirmed in Origin.)

You might say late 30s, Tom, but according to IMdB, she was born in 1952. So yeah, she looks pretty good for being 53 or so when that movie was filmed.

"Dang, way to bag on Shohreh Aghdashloo there, sir. I think she looks pretty good for mid-50s, plus people in comics always look better than real people.

Shucks, I was just funnin’. I actually like her quite a bit, especially when she was on 24."

I KNEW I had seen her somewhere, but couldn't place her.
O Merciful Rao!
I'm a regular fan of 24, and I SHOULD have known better.

Mid-50's? Bah, I'd say late 30's. She IS hot! ;-)

just jumping in randomly here, so sorry if the question was answered or I'm answering it wrong, but as to the Exiles interacting with the X-men, they've done it once in the original Exiles run while Chuck Austen was on X-men, IIRC, so it's possible to do any time, I think. If I remember, I'll come back when I have time and answer a little better.

Oh and it really wasn’t as bad as Spiderman 3, but the Spiderman films had never been as good as the X-men films.

You're right-- the Spidey films were twice as good as the X-Men movies. And in the case of X3, twenty times as good.

Re: the Claremont 'do-over' which was discussed in another column here recently by Brian (? - I think so, anyway). I definitely agree with you, Greg, that the starting point should be somewhere earlier - I commented in that column that I thought the cut-off point should be Scott and Maddie's wedding (or honeymoon), but giving it more thought, it should probably be even earlier, such that as far as Scott is concerned, he ends up with that fishing boat skipper in Florida (what was her name, Lee something?). Totally underrated character, and it avoids that whole creepy Jean look-alike situation surrounding Maddie.
Since I effectively stopped reading X-men a looooong time ago, like when there were only 3 titles (Uncanny, New Mutants and the 'Classics' reprints), I really can't help with the substance of this column, much as I enjoyed it (and looking forward to seeing the comment thread mutate - pun intended).
p.s. glad you were just funnin' about Shohreh - I guess this is a sign that I'm just getting old, but based on that photo, I not only think she "looks pretty good", she's downright hot...

Blink first appeared in the crossover that introduced Generation X, when the Phalanx took out the X-Men and the new kids had to save the day. That's when she died, and then Marvel realized she was pretty dang popular, so they've been bringing her back in various forms (AoA, Exiles) ever since.

Betsy Braddock's original body, inhabited by Kwannon's mind (sheesh), also died of the Legacy Virus. I don't know if she counts as a main character, but when the body was Psylocke's, she was!

I don't know anything about the Ultimate line, but as far as I know Wolverine's claws are all his.

Blink first showed up in the now-prevented future from the Age of Apocalypse where she was a member of the X-Men.

Also, Colossus' sister Illyana died from the Legacy Virus. She used to be a fairly major character, and an important part of that whole "Inferno" event.

Rachel must have gotten the New Exiles stuff from someone else, because it wasn't me. The stuff I sent her was mainly the New Mutants/New X-Men run from a few years ago (before most of them were put on a bus and then killed) and PAD's two X-Factor runs.

My understanding of Logan's claws was that the bone claws were part of his original mutation, but the claws didn't manifest until the Weapon X program laced his skeleton with adamantium (or however you spell it). Has that been changed? Haven't followed Wolverine in several years now.

My understanding of Logan’s claws was that the bone claws were part of his original mutation, but the claws didn’t manifest until the Weapon X program laced his skeleton with adamantium (or however you spell it). Has that been changed? Haven’t followed Wolverine in several years now.

Emma Frost was originally meant to be Colossus in Morrison's run? Just imagine how THAT love triangle would have been.

I think it varies depending on the universe setting. Sometimes the claws were added mechanically, sometimes they started out as bone.

Perry is indeed very awesome. ^_^

Send her to the new X-Force for the Archangel returning stuff, It's a decent book at the moment what X-Men should be.

Hey Greg, love the column. On X3 I have to disagree with your point about Cyclops, as I understand it he got written out because James Marsden opted to join Singer's Superman Returns instead. However, I'd much rather of waited the extra 2/3 years for Singer's X-Men after he did Superman. I think a lot of the fan hate is to do with the drop in quality and how much had been set up, everyone was itching to see X3 and then they gave it to Brett Ratner.

Oh and it really wasn't as bad as Spiderman 3, but the Spiderman films had never been as good as the X-men films. Both do show the big problem with comic book movies, more than one villain doesn't work, if it's true for standard films it is true for comic films.

Dang, way to bag on Shohreh Aghdashloo there, sir. I think she looks pretty good for mid-50s, plus people in comics always look better than real people.

Shucks, I was just funnin'. I actually like her quite a bit, especially when she was on 24.
