A Year of Cool Comic Book Moments – Day 165
Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far!
Today continues our tripartite look at the beginnings of the awesome Milestone hero, Static!
Enjoy!
We’ve already seen writers Dwayne McDuffie and Robert Washington III and penciler John Paul Leon introduce us to Virgil Hawkins and his best friend (and who he wish would be something more) Frieda Goren.
Static saved her from some goons of a local wannabe gangster.
Well, they come back later and bring Frieda to said wannabe gangster, only he’s a bit more than Static expected, which gives us this dramatic and unexpected cliffhanger twist in the burgeoning Static mythos…

“The” moment for me is the ending, when Virgil’s identity is revealed to Frieda.

The ending from that comic was one of my all-time favourite moments. I lost the comic years ago in a house fire, and I still remember that scene word for word.
(And for me, the moment is when Frieda finds out Virgil’s secret identity. Just for the record.)

I just bought that trade yesterday.
The Milestone books (Static and Icon especially) are my favorite superhero comics of the ’90s.
