A Year of Cool Comic Book Moments – Day 170
Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far!
Today begins a multi-part look at perhaps the most classic Hitman story ever.
Enjoy!
In Hitman #13 (by Garth Ennis and John McCrea) we learn that our “hero,” Tommy Monaghan and his friend Natt have been hired to kill this mad scientist who is testing out a process that involves re-animating dead things (there’s a great line where Tommy explains that he usually gets hired by scientist groups and chemical plants, because they’re always having SOMEone get doused with chemicals and turning into a superhero – so they hire Tommy before she/he can start a superhero career – maximum deniability). They discover that their friend Ringo has ALSO been hired to kill the mad scientist.
They track the guy to the Gotham Aquarium, where the mad scientist has turned the temperature up in all the tanks to boiling. Note that their OTHER assassin friend, the incompetent Hacken, has not shown up yet. Stress yet.

“The” moment is definitely that last page cliffhanger by John McCrea.
He might never have done as good of a job on this series as he did on this two-parter.

that moment is one of the cool and hilerious moments of the whole series Tommy and company almost wanting to have to change pants after seeing all the zombie see life out side the door . that and hack trying his bad shinning impression . and tommy having to tell him about doors.

I think it was the in the next issue, but I still crack up thinking about Hacken shouting “Kill the chickens!” over and over again.

The team-up with Catwoman was classic, too. “I would personally crawl fifty miles through broken glass to clean her bathtub with my tongue.”

shit, why cant “the boys” read like that?
I had to leave around issue 10 or so. First time Ennis let me down.
Still think he’s the best writer evar!! (though Morrison is creeping up)

“Kill the Chickens” was from the “Final Night” (or whatever one the sun went out in) tie-in. My favorite series that was set in mainstream EVER.

As soon as I saw Hitman for Day 170, I hoped and prayed it was Zombie Night at the Gotham Aquarium. And it was. Life is good.
