@Movilla: I'm not sure what you mean by Nebres's "contemporaries," but there were many more than the ones you name working in the US comics industry at the same time (and presumably even more in the Filipino comics industry). The most prominent one you don't mention is probably Nestor Redondo. For a longer list and some interesting history, I recommend Comic Book Artist, vol. 2, issue 4, with a gorgeous Alex Nino cover. On the general topic, for my tastes too many of Filipino artists, Nebres among them, concentrate(d) on a beautiful surface "finish" at the expense of storytelling and a certain kind of direct "energy." De Zuniga, Nino, and the too-little-known Steve Gan were among the exceptions (as was Ernie Chan, but I just don't like his art). I confess, however, to a weakness for Alfredo Alcala's gloriously "shiny" inks, at least on his own art and over some pencilers. (I think he obscured too much of Don Newton's lovely Batman penciling.)

Wow, thanks for that! All those Filipino artists from the seventies were/are great. I'm glad to see that Nebres and DeZuniga are still working.

Cool...one of the best artists to come from the Philippines. IIRC, his fellow Filipino comic book artist contemporaries were Tony De Zuniga, Alfredo Alcala, Ernie Chua/Chan and Alex Nino.

I remember when Nebres took over Doc Strange, following Gene Colan's 70s stint. I was prepared to be disappointed, but came away thinking he did a really nice job. His work was very dynamic. Plus, as the third and fourth scans bear out, he drew a sexay Clea.

Man, does this bring back memories. I used to love Nebres' work in Marvel's B&W magazine line (esp. the Iron Fist/kung fu stuff). His figure work was fluid and his ink wash finishes were gorgeous. Although his rather "unconventional" approach to page and panel layout (that is, when he bothered to use panels) in the early days sometimes made it hard to tell what was going on, the drawing was so beautiful it didn't really matter.

Rudy Nebres ALWAYS Rocks.

Here´s one of the Greatest MASTER in comics.

Anatomy,composition,lihjt & Shadow,Crosshatching,paintings... Nebres really knows and use on his owrks.
Here in Brazil He have a lot of fans,from his great Conan stories and YES.... Mike Deodato is a huge fan of him... Deodato posted this link on Twitter
