That’s over the line sonny!

Although the issue isn’t great – it’s just random story set up – it beats the snot out of Kid Eternity – go re-read that first issue – or better yet don’t – it doesn’t even really set up one story, and over relies on making mythological references to get past!

This may not have been great – something getting some depth or fleshed out next issue wuld be nice – but it’s not Kid Eternity bad!

Seriously?! I haven’t read the book yet and I trust in Brubaker to pull it off but I hope he has a full-proof explanation for that.

I didn’t get the “unstuck in time” line. Is that a reference to Vonnegut’s Slaghterhouse Five?

It’s a reference to Captain America: Reborn, which is using that as their way of bringing Cap back – he’s currently “unstuck in time.”

Atomika really is an amazing book but the biggest proof that it’s good is that it was put in the “No…just no” section of The Buy Pile. Can’t have a better recomendation than that!

Despite the inherent dangers of reading a Milligan book, I did mean to pick Greek Street up, so thanks for the reminder!

Ian: I was just experimenting with the images on either side of the page. I haven’t made up my mind about it yet. I agree that it’s good to break up the reviews, though, so maybe I’ll go back to doing that. Interestingly enough, you can’t just add space between the paragraphs. WordPress simply ignores them unless there’s text on the line. I imagine asterisks or dashes would work, though. We’ll see – you never know how I’m going to format the next post!

Tim: Yeah, but, as we all now know, you have no idea what you’re talking about. That’s pretty much established fact. As for Uncanny – I have no interest in the crossover, so I’m skipping it. When the dust has settled, I may jump back on, but it’s up in the air right now.

Anyways, this week was huge for me, getting both Batman and Robin issues, Streets of Gotham, GLC and Secret Six. That’s basically my monthly purchasing all in one go (except for Incognito).

Also, I can’t read “Astro City” anymore and I don’t know why. I used to love it. But I literally cannot finish an issue of this “Dark Age” stuff. My eyes glaze over about halfway through and I just toss it aside. I read every single issue of ‘Countdown” and I can’t read this. Maybe it will work for me when I read the whole arc in one sitting? Just thinking out loud here.

You’re totally done with Fraction’s “Uncanny” at this point? I just re-read his run so far and it really works well, I think. I like it a lot now.

Greek Street didn’t wow me (as my review for CBR will show whenever Augie posts it). I think it was too much “throw as much out there and see what sticks.” But, it’s also an extra-sized comic for a dollar, so everyone should have gotten a copy.

Actually, I’m none too keen on the text wraps. I prefer the old style, wherein the images were used as buffers between reviews to break up the paragraphs. Now that the space between reviews is identical to the space between paragraphs, the reviews all kind of bleed into one long, winding, gray snake.

An added line-break or two might help to differentiate one review from the next. Horizontal rules between reviews could also work, similar to how the comments section is divvied up.

The numbered footnotes are great, though.

And, I’m looking forward to reading Batman and Robin, but the holiday is probably going to screw up its shipping from HeavyInk. Hopefully, it’ll arrive on Monday or Tuesday.

Also, if Chew and Greek Street continue to shape up, I’ll definitely grab their trades. The art on both looks very promising.

Astro City is how all shared universes should be presented. The only complaint I have about Astro City is that it isn’t monthly.
