An interesting note about Liefeld's comments; my understanding is that the spartan army encouraged homosexual relationships between the men since not only was homo(bi)sexuality not considered the taboo it is now but also because it was felt that you would fight harder if those beside you were also lovers as well as comrades.

I don't get this "character-based fan" shit. Honestly, it seems to mean "immature reader". When you're a kid, you'll consume Bambi 3 because you don't know the difference. If you're an adult - even a young adult - reading comics and you'll read a bad book by a bad writer and a bad artist just to read a certain character, you've got some growing up to do, past fetishistic attachments and toward genuine appreciation.

My first response to this question would be All-Star Superman. I enjoyed the book and thought it was okay, but most bloggers I read practically exploded with enthusiasm for it when it came out...

Hot damn, bloggers are batty for the Batbooks. When was the last time a wave of titles garnered this much attention? When was the last time so much of it was positive? I hope it lasts. I hope the quality lasts. Also: Speaking of alphabets, Sean Murphy has started drawing Wolverine poses inspired by letterforms, A to Z. The idea doesn't promise the madcap, zany energy and creativity of Cameron's A-Z of Awesomeness, but it should result in some dynamic imagery all the same.

So glad people are finally talking about Batwoman beyond the "She's NEW! She's GAY!" angle. Finally she's in something worth talking about, in addition to being a lesbian and having a striking costume.
