I don't understand the complaint. There are two options: the character leaves or the character doesn't leave and either one's been done a thousand times.
I don't think it's been done much better than this.

When Aaron isn’t stereotyping Indians as criminals, thugs, and lowlifes, he’s a good writer.

He's not stereotyping Native Americans as criminals, thugs and lowlifes, he's telling a story about some Native Americans who are criminals, thugs and lowlifes!

When Aaron isn't stereotyping Indians as criminals, thugs, and lowlifes, he's a good writer. Clearly he has a fair understanding of what life on a poor reservation is like.

But the "No more chiefs, braves, bucks, skins, 'breeds, squaws" line doesn't ring true. Poor Bear would encounter more offensive stereotypes off the rez than he'd encounter on it.

I thought there was the chance he could leave as well - or maybe I just really, really, really hoped he would!

I hope I don't ruin anything, but even cooler than that is the follow on moment in a later issue, where Bad Crow sees that he hasn't gone - that look between them is awesome.

I'm surprised Brian that you've actually had moments not focusing on Bad Crow - he's the best character in the book.

I don't know, Greg, I thought there was a chance Dino would leave; I was certainly rooting for him to do so anyway, and that was what made this issue as moving as it was, to me, anyway.

And I thought that three-panel "Just don't forget where the FUCK you come from" sequence was excellent.

The only problem I have with this issue is that Aaron falls into the cliché of having someone insist that today's the day they're leaving when we all know he's not going anywhere. He did it rather effectively, but that doesn't change the fact that we've seen this kind of story hundreds of times, and the character NEVER leaves. While I was reading this, I kept hoping that just this once, the character would leave. When he didn't, I was more disappointed than I probably should have been, because it's just another example of the cliché, but I really wanted Aaron to do better.
