@John Trumbull

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Guess I'll have to hunt the annual and Dark Victory down and see which I like better (or if I can come up with some sort of "a wizard did it" answer for myself).

That was a lot of fun, even if I knew practically none of them (I kind of vaguely recalled that it was Penguin who wanted to marry Barbara Gordon in the t.v. show, but I couldn't remember the actual reason. Hell, the logical answer for me would have been: he wanted to be married to Yvonne Craig...)
Anyway, this is a great feature and I hope you decide to do it again in the near future - and with a theme in which I'm better versed.

Was that LOTDK annual the only place Flass showed up, aside from Year One? I always wondered what happened to him.

He was killed off in Dark Victory, Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale's Long Halloween sequel. But it's not officially in continuity, since Flass dies years before that LOTDK Annual. He's also identified as JOHN Flass, not Arnold Flass, as in Batman: Year One.

Congrats to Cass. Heh. As I told you in my submission, Greg, I knew to have no expectations of winning unless nobody else entered. LOL

One thing bugs me, though. I could've sworn in one of the various articles about the Batman movies in COMICS SCENE Magazine V.2 #6 or #8 it was specifically stated the "Burton" Batmobile's frame was based off of a Corvette chassis, not the Impala (hence my apparently incorrect response). Unfortunately, I've long since got rid of my CS collection, and I may simply be misremembering. Out of curiosity, though, if somebody has those issues, I'd appreciate a clarification. Maybe I'm just remembering it as "A Corvette wrapped around a jet engine", now that Greg made the remark about it. (I do remember the "jet engine" quotes.)

Greg, great quiz. I hadn't heard of Paul Sloane, but in an interesting coincidence, I was just this week reading a collection of Batman Sunday strips I picked up at a discount shelf at Borders. One of the stories was about yet another Two-Face, whose name was Harvey Apollo! He was a ham actor testifying against a gangster, had the acid thrown in his face, etc, etc. Seemed to be an amalgam of Harvey Dent and Vitamin Flintheart from Dick Tracy.

Some notes:

-- The major difference between the Pre- and Post-Crisis versions of the Penny Plunderer story is that Coyne gets squished by the Penny in the Post-Crisis version. One hopes Batman hosed the thing off before putting it up in the 'Cave.

-- The Dinosaur Island story is mildly notorious for misspelling the word as "Dinasaur" on the cover.

-- Paul Sloane returned post-Zero Hour as a different villain, the Charlatan, who'd been created by the other Batman foes when Two-Face opted out of a big team-up scheme.

-- Bruce's "Frank Dixon" alias in the latter-day Detective Comics Annual is, of course, an homage to the house pseudonym for the writers of the Hardy Boys books.

-- Eivel Ekdol created a second "greatest creation," a booby-trapped grenade, but this was merely a ruse intended to bring about the death of a man who killed him to steal the gadget. It occurred in his second and very final appearance, one written and published because the TV show had brought his name to prominence.

That was fun Greg. I wish I would have held off sending a day, as I would have had the Ditko question and the Talia question.

Also the second part of my hail-mary on young Bruce's first words... The Post-Crisis version was "Grrrrrrr!".

So Mlle. Marie was one. I was amazed that no one guessed her as one of them.

That was one of the few questions I did actually know the answer to... but only because it was mentioned in the old Batman sourcebook for the DC Heroes RPG by Mayfair Games.

I did know Mlle. Marie, but as she never had an ongoing under her own name, I didn’t think she counted.

I wonder if that's the mistake everyone made. I was careful to say headlined a SERIES and not a book, though Marie did get the cover of Star-Spangled several times.

Man, this was a devilishly hard quiz!

I knew the Jason Todd and Tim Drake Superman meetings! By which I mean, "I own those comics and they're in a box somewhere" would've been my answer.

I knew Lori Loughlin was Black Canary!

I knew the Penny Plunderer!

All the villain secret identities sounded familiar, but the only one I knew from memory was Clayface III.

I did know Mlle. Marie, but as she never had an ongoing under her own name, I didn't think she counted.

And I thought the werewolf question was looking for something way more specific.

Can you imagine if Steve Ditko cut loose on an objectivist Batman? That would've been something.
