.

Given that Michael Cera, who is unattractive, has a warbly unpleasant voice and the charisma of a gym sock is playing Scott Pilgrim, I’m not sure what’s potentially cool in any way about the game being based on the movie.

Geez man, he wasn't even in Dark Knight, why all the spite?
Arrested Development and Super-Bad were pretty good, so people with good ideas seem to like him.
Also, it's Edgar Wright, so you know he knows what he's doing.

You forgot “4. Ubisoft makes bad games targeted at people who are probably dumb enough to eat their own controllers if left unsupervised by onscreen prompts.”

That's a bit unfair dave, since ubisoft is a publisher which releases a huge array of games. The encouraging thing is that their flagship studio in Montreal is developing it.

Despite that, it could still suck hard

It may be more like the movie than the comic. As cool as that potentially sounds, I’d prefer something more like source material than the adaptation.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance was pretty nifty if you ask me...it came with my 360 but I would have bought it anyway.

I reckon the art style of an 8/16-bit game, but an rpg or something.
I mean, that pic on the back of vol.3 or 4 where they were all pixels... come on, you wanted to play that game!
That's how it should look, but it should be open world with plenty of stuff to do.
And after you've played it all night long, it'll hold you until you fall asleep whispering I love.
That's all I want from the game.

On the plus side, if it's an 8-bit style side scroller that doesn't try to dick around with multiple genres and mini-games in favor of elegant NES simplicity, there's a greater chance that it won't be screwed up in development. I wouldn't expect it to set the world on fire, but to make it a simple Double Dragon beat-em-up wouldn't be too hard, and would be totally appropriate for Scott Pilgrim.

Then again, as much as NES games are worshipped by Scott himself, I always thought the Scott Pilgrim story would be best suited as an Action RPG a la Paper Mario, turn-based battles involving fast-paced button mashing mini-games.

Most video games based on movies suck, but the one's that don't, like Goldeneye, Spiderman 2 and The Warriors are some of the best games you'll ever play!
