@Ian: I disagree. Sure there is no plan to take over the world, but Osborn has basically already done that. And Marvel Boy is realizing that the team isn’t a hero team like he thought it was. So yes, the team isn’t evolving like that one did, but the basic premise (IMHO, the one sentence that encapsulates what the very beginning of the book is about, not what it soon became) is the same. Villains are pretending to be heroes in order to accomplish a nefarious scheme.

Those would be the tweaks. Which also remove pretty much all the dramatic weight from it, leaving it as an emotional snuff book. (“Look at these horrible people doing horrible things and getting away with it! Are you not entertained?”)

Except that there is no plan to “take over the world” and none of them are growing to like being heroes.

From CBR's interview with Parker:

When Parker takes over “Thunderbolts” he’ll continue to tell stories about two very different groups of T-Bolts; Osborn’s current team of violent killers as well as some members from the team’s original line-up who’ve gathered together to try and wrestle the legacy of their former team from Osborn’s depraved clutches. “We're definitely not done with the original Thunderbolts,” Parker stated. “And we're going to examine how the team works when weighted heavily towards psychos like it is now. It has the paranoid Ghost, the hyperviolent Mr. X, the buckwild Headsman, and is led by Scourge, whose true face will be revealed soon. Just not the most stable bunch in the world.”

Also: the Agents of Atlas will appear (of course). And, yeah, Miguel Sepulveda is staying on as the ongoing penciller. Not sure I'm happy about that, honestly. His work, particularly on faces, is incredibly inconsistent.

I’ve been hit or miss on T-bolts since the beginning, but I’ve enjoyed both the Ellis and Diggle runs. I met Parker at the NYCC earlier this year. He was one of the funniest and friendliest guys I had a chance to talk to, so I’ll always give his books a shot.

I’ve read that the artist isn’t changing so the book will look the same. As for the reference to Dark Avengers, if any book is redundant it’s Dark Avengers. The premise is the same, with a tweak here and there, of the Busiek’s original Thunderbolts launch. The question is can Dark Avengers evolve the same way or will it run out of steam when the Dark Reign ends? I didn’t know anything about Diggle prior to Thunderbolts and while Agents of Atlas did not grab me I’m willing to give Parker the opportunity. A return to the original crew might be what the book needs to separate it from Dark Avengers.

Is it just me, or does the somewhat rapid succession of writers coming and going on T-Bolts make it look like a book that’s more driven by the editors than the writers?

I have been reading T-bolts since Ellis’ run began. I was on the verge of dropping it until about two issues ago (whenever the Deadpool x-over ended). I didn’t really feel like Diggle’s run had any direction until last issue, which was awesome. Now I’m dissappoited that he’s leaving.

Well…in theory. That doesn’t really happen in the actual comic. It seems like they spend most of their time split between fighting Deadpool and getting their asses handed to them.

I think the current run had a lot of wasted potential.

Not quite. While the Dark Avengers are out in the public eye, Thunderbolts are more his black ops force for doing dirty work that he wouldn’t want to be known.

I like Jeff Parker too, but I don’t know that he has the voice for it. Diggle and Ellis could both do grizzled and mean really, really well and I don’t know that I’ve read anything of Parker’s that can communicate that same kind of hostility.

Is Jeff Parker going to continue with Agents of Atlas, when it is relaunched, following the team’s crossover with X-Men and appearances in Incredible Hercules? That’s been a great book and I hope he is able to stick with it.

Thunderbolts wasn’t a dark title for 109 issues. The old Thunderbolts, Mach IV, the Fixer, Songbird and possibly others, are returing to the title, so maybe that’s the direction the series is headed under Parker. Makes sense to me.

Actually, they are keeping the same artist if I am not mistaken (can’t quite remember his name off the top of my head). I like this because it will give the book a visual consistency and I enjoy the artwork.

I’m waiting on an announcement for a regular artist. Fairly jarring inconsistency from month to month – sometimes from page to page even – for the past year or so. I haven’t been too thrilled with Diggle’s run so far (I wasn’t a big fan of Ellis’s run either, so there’s that), so the writer switch is cool with me.

Is Michael Lark doing anything after Daredevil? I think he would be a great catch for the T-Bolts, but maybe too big an artist for the title.
