Yeah, that's what I was thinking. You can kind of see Perez in there somewhere, but the inking and coloring is a hot mess.

To be fair, Shawn, that's not really Perez through and through.

That was Perez breakdowns and Al Vey finished art (that was their pretty clever solution to keeping Perez on schedule, they had him do breakdowns for most -if not all - of his Avengers issues rather than finished pencils).

By the end of his run, Paul Ryan was brought in to sort of co-pencil the book with Perez, where Perez would do extremely light breakdowns that Ryan would take to full pencils and then Vey would ink the finished pencils.

Are you guys kidding? That's patented Perez detail, all over the place, and typical of his run on the Busiek Avengers?

However, if we'd prefer an iconic panel from JLA/Avengers, how about something from Superman vs. Thor: "I guess my dial goes up to 11!"

Number 1 is definitely the way to go here, but man, 3 is superb.

Sadly I have to agree that while Perez is one of my favorite artists, the panel here (which I've never seen before) looks kind of sad in comparison. I know it wouldn't count, but I'd take any single panel of JLA-Avengers over this one.

I find it funny to even compare #2 to the other two panels, especially #1. It isn't even remotely in the same league. That Avengers panel looks like it was drawn by a 15 year old kid who may or may not have some potential. It is just silly to me. Maybe the dialogue is cool, but the artwork is too... average (which is being kind)... to call that panel iconic. When I googled this issue I read it was drawn by George Perez... I hope that isn't true. There is SO MANY better representations of his work than this panel.

#2 is the first one of these featured that is I read when it came out.

I don't get #1. I like a lot of the Lee/Kirby FF stuff, but this seems pretty static to me. His body language and facial expression say nothing. I get it is important because of the story it is involved in, but it just doesn't seem like the best of the Kirby FF stuff. His trademark energy is not at show here.

That Avengers panel really seems out of place between those other two. Nice piece of artwork, but it doesn't really represent a major "wow" moment for the characters, the book, or the medium. And, quite frankly, without those elements, it's really too recent to have achieved real icon status.

If you're going to bring in Steranko's Cap work, you just HAVE to go with the Bucky/Grim Reaper montage (recently homaged by Bru/Epting)

http://superherouniverse.com/wiki/Image:SterankoCaptAm-page.jpg

That, or the two-page motorcycle splash.

Actually, you can find all three here

FF #51 is one of my all time comics from any publisher. But while the splash page is great, and almost certainly the most iconic panel in the issue, I just have a personal preference for the pseudo-Thing sitting in resignation, as the asteroid upon which he rests hurtles towards oblivion.

#1 by a mile.

I love Cap and really love Hydra, but as has been said there are better examples of them.

The splash to FF#51 should easily make it into the top ten (I hope).

@Roman - 100% agreement.

I think I'd go with the Thing panel.

I admit I never understood why everyone loved that Thor/Ultron moment so much when that same story arc had one of the greatest holy s--t moments in Avengers history. I'm talking about the previous issue's cliffhanger when, after spending a whole issue defeating Ultron, the Avengers encounter another Ultron with a higher number on its forehead, then another, until one shows up with a number like "612" or something incredible (sorry I don't remember the exact numbers). I hope that sequence shows up in a Cool Comic Book Moment entry.

Having said all that, this Avengers panel has become legendary, so it's earned a spot on this list, I suppose. But I still go with the Thing.

Great Busiek Avengers choice. Definitely the Ultron story was very intense. I was trying to think of one I would pick ... maybe Wanda calling Wonder Man back to life? Or Jan signing the submission letter to Kang during his world domination invasion?

Two more ideas:

"He" coming out of the pod in Fantastic Four.

and the Avengers discovering the pod that held Jean Grey's body in the Hudson River (or was it the East?).

Tough that pannel #2 had to be featured the same day as "This Man... This Monster!" That one is easily the most iconic of the three today.
Gotta say though, I personally like Thor telling Ultron he would have word with thee more.
