I’m interested in featuring one or more of the following three Born Again panels as choices for the Most Iconic Marvel Panels, but I’m sure which (if any) of them I should feature.
So I figured I’d put it to you folks! I’ll let this one last a week.
Panel #1
Panel #2
Panel #3

This is really tough because the whole last page that ends in panel three is great.

Yeah, I know, George, I agree that it’s tough. That’s why I figured I’d let you folks pick.

I think you’ve already got the most iconic panel from the run with the DD coming out of the flames panel (#24 on masterlist). The panels above work more as a sequence than standalone.

I voted #2.
You know just from the shape that is the Kingpin. The skyline is very clearly New York City. So, it screams MARVEL COMICS right there.
Add in the “There Is No Corpse” line and you have the major theme of “the hero is waaayyyy down” (or even dead), but not out that was one of the key Marvel innovations in Sixties. That fits my definition of iconic.
Miller and Mazzucelli used a variation of Panel #1 in “Batman: Year One”. It worked just as well in a DC Comic. It is great comics to be sure, but it is not a uniquely Marvel style moment.
Panel #3 is a great bit of hard-boiled dialog that really defines Daredevil, but again it comes from outside the strictly Marvel tradition.

I agree with kymaera on this one. I was surprised to see the topic listing, as I didn’t think you’d have another from the same storyline.
I choose None of Them, but I’m grateful for the choice.
BTW, absolutely loving this series of articles, and excited to see the result. You’ve created a lot of discussion, and certainly stirred up some wonderful memories on all the readers who click on this site. Thanks for your hard work, Brian.
Cheers,
B

None.
One of the “70 Most Iconic Panels” . . . I don’t think so.

i voted for 3. the text alone is way more iconic than the other images,

I think the second one is superb.

Add me to the party of no for this one. The panel you previously selected along with the DD 181 panel are plenty enough of Miller’s runs.

All great, but I don’t know if I’d consider any of them iconic. To my mind, the “Born Again” panel of choice is the overhead shot of Matt lying on the floor in the cheap hotel.

Panel #2.
Also, the last page of #232. I know, it’s a splash page, but if any deserve it, it’s that one.

I guess the text from 3 is the most memorable part, but not an iconic panel by any means.
For me, the most iconic image would be Matt in his mother’s arms, pieta style.
Or the image of him trapped underwater, that seething rage/ inhuman determination look stands out to me, not sure that it’d make the top 70 though

I voted 2 and 3. although there a quite a few from that story that could probably be used as well.

I voted 1 and 2. 3 is sort of generic.

None of them. Great story. I re-read it time and again. But “iconic?” When was the last time any of these was referenced, homaged, or re-printed for any in-story purpose?
Sorry. MAYBE the panel image of broken-nosed Kingpin with the knowing smile. Otherwise, DD coming ouf of the flames is the only one that fits from Born Again.

Panel 1…when I think of Born Again, that’s the specific bit that comes to mind.

2 is a definite. 1 is good as well.

Love “Born Again”….but none of these panels screams “iconic” at me as a stand alone panel. Great art in terms of telling a story through panels…but the other two images from “Born Again,” that stay with me, apart from the DD emerging from the flames, which is already in the list, are the Pieta style image that LouReedRichards mentioned, and the silhouette of Thor starting the Thunderstorm with the caption “…..AND DOES,” from #233.

Just #1. You already had the resurrection pane too.

I voted 1 and 2. If I had to pick just 1(I DIDN’T have to, which was nice of you Brian, but if I did) it would have been #1.

Definitely not 3. I might be tempted to put 2 on a list of 10 that is probably gonna be half Spidey panels for me.

Not the final full page shot of DD at the Daily Bugle with his cargo dropped off on Ben’s desk?

no wonder you are having a hard time for all three pannels show why the story is one of the best daredevil stories ever. espically where the kingpin is figuring out he did not totaly destroy daredevil he made daredevil be reborn and payback is coming. hard call to make which pannel to use

it should be the ditko tribute panel that mazzuchelli drew with ben urich holding onto the phone as he hears his wife being strangled. just awesome

1 and 2. #1 is the lead up, and the imagery is good, but the wording is better, and as a result taken altogether, just looks iconic. If I REALLY had to pick just one, it’d be 2 though. Absolutely classic. It’s that moment where everyone knows, just KNOWS what’s going to be coming down the line.

I also voted none of them. The three panels that I remember most vividly form this storyline are Matt curled up on the bed of his cheap hotel room; Thor calling down the rain; and DD dumping Nuke’s body on the desk. I guess technically those last two are from the next story and not Born Again itself, but I’d personally go with any of those over any of these. Also, maybe the panel of the strung out Karen Page offering up DD’s secret identity.

All of them! Also should be included the last page, with karen and matt… great stuff!

I’d have gone with Karen and Matt’s reunion, that shot of them hugging each other.
The other panel I’d call iconic would be that shot of Captain America with the caption, “A soldier with a voice that could command a god…”

#1 and #2. The second one is absolutely superb.
Apart from the already-featured “DD in front of fire” scene, two other panels from Born Again deserve consideration: Daredevil dropping off Nuke over a table, and Matt + Karen together at the end.

I’ve never seen any of these, so I’m going to go with none of them.
I haven’t read a lot of the comics featured so far, but I still recognize all of them until these.

I’m going to say all three of them. However, I would have chosen another panel with the line “There is no corpse” (the one with the Kingpin reading the newspaper or the close-up on his eyes when he’s body building).

In my humble opinion, the last page of #233 is more iconic that any of these panels, but out of these I’d say #3.

I’ve only read one issue of the ‘Born Again’ story, and none of these are from it. (But the one I’ve got is titled ‘Born Again’, so I’m thinking it’s the important issue.) If I were to pick any of the panels I know, I would go with the big splash page of DD on the cot in the mission, with the nun crying that he’s alive. I also like the idea hanif had of Urich on the phone listening to the strangulation (but it wasn’t his wife, it was a hospitalised cop… unless there’s a different strangulation in another issue.)
I also love Ben Urich taking the bandages off his hand and saying ‘Matt Murdock’, but that takes two panels to get the impact.

Got to go with 2.
I’m just sad that you can’t put up the “Voice that can command a God, and does.” page. It’s one of the best pages I’ve ever read from a comic of the comman man’s look at big name super heroes.
