Chad: Yeah, I saw that Dreier was the inker after I posted. I always assumed the artist lettered the work on Avatar books.

For some reason, even though I clearly recognised the psychiatrist as Stan immediately, it never occured to me that the other one was Ditko until you pointed it out here. I had wondered why he was reading 'Atlas Shrugged'. I guess since I don't pay that much attention to the real lives of the various writers and artists, I don't automatically think of Ditko when I think of Ayn Rand (although I had heard that he was a fan). I should have realised there would be a Ditko reference in the book somewhere, but for some reason, I just didn't see it.

Greg -- Avatar books don't credit the letterer, so who it is is unknown... unless you just ask them.

Spider-Man is finally being done right again, even if they had to really screw things up to get it there. And since the current creators, unlike Quesada, seem to care about history and continuity, they’ve slowly been explaining things about how all the bad ideas of recent years have been undone, while keeping the history intact as best they can.

But if they really cared about history and continuity-- which, personally, I don't-- they wouldn't have retconned anything. They would've either dealt with it, or ignored it. Now, I rather think they're mostly ignoring all the lousy stories, aside from the in-story retconning of the marriage. That's a whole 'nother can of worms, and a decision I wouldn't have voted for. If they wanted to write stories like it was 1976/1983/etc again, why not just do that? It's basically what they're doing now, albeit with some extra polish and new supporting cast members-- but it's narrative paralysis.

That doesn't mean the stories can't be fun. I've now read a trade or two's worth of issues of Brand New Day and more or less liked them, though I'm still not crazy about Spider-Man in general and haven't been for quite some time. But that's the nature of the beast; while Batman is infinitely adaptable, Spidey pretty much has to be the same flavor every time, and one can wear their taste buds out. The occasional nibble keeps me happy.

(Two Guys, A Girl, & A Pizza Place? Yeah, that’s on-topic!)

It is an outdated reference, but I loved that sitcom. There are more actual jokes in the issue.

.) But it seems half the guys on the internet refuse to even look at the book anymore, so they don’t know what they’re missing.

Personally I stopped reading them because 'at least good enough' doesn't really rate for me and my money.

I'm glad you finally read a Spider-Man issue again. the fact is, despite all the complaints from the professional internet complainers since the One More Day fiasco, a lot of the Spider-Man issues of the past two years have been this good, or at least good enough. (Not all of them, but most.) But it seems half the guys on the internet refuse to even look at the book anymore, so they don't know what they're missing.
One More Day was a bad idea, it's true, but the sad fact is they needed to do Something to get the series back to how it should be, after the Other, and the Unmasking, and Sins Past, and all the other epic storylines that had been ruining things since the early '90s.
Spider-Man is finally being done right again, even if they had to really screw things up to get it there. And since the current creators, unlike Quesada, seem to care about history and continuity, they've slowly been explaining things about how all the bad ideas of recent years have been undone, while keeping the history intact as best they can.

(Oh. And just so nobody gets the wrong idea, I'm not one of those idiots that think the marriage to Mary Jane had ruined everything. It was all those horrible stories that came afterwards that messed it all up. Like a lot of people, I was thrilled to see Mary Jane come back. I just wish she could stay, but I'm sure she won't.)

I got all excited thinking you had #3 of Batman And Robin to review... where is that thing?

Also, it weirds me out how much reviewers are raving about #2... it was alright, but not a patch on #1... maybe I'm just to used to the trade, but nothing really happened in that sucker.

You said it was funny, so I sincerely hope that Spidey 600 had more than just tired pop culture jokes. (Two Guys, A Girl, & A Pizza Place? Yeah, that's on-topic!)

Buffy Season 8, I want to love you, but you're taking waaaaay too long to do anything. We should already know who Twilight is at this point, and the whole season should probably be wrapping up, well, now, actually. Too many side trips, too many stretched out plots, too many characters vying for the spotlight. Grr Argh!

The only problem with calling Captain Britain & MI13 would be that the internet would be complaining about "yet another Avengers book! We already have New, Mighty, Initiative and Dark! Do we really need a BRITISH Avengers?!" But then again the internet loves CB&MI13 and it's canceled so what do we know?
