The Return of Casper the Friendly Ghost!
So wait, was this already announced or is it just a crazy coincidence that Scott chose today of all days to do a piece on Casper the Friendly Ghost? Ardden Entertainment is debuting a new Casper the Friendly Ghost series featuring other Harvey Entertainment characters, as well! J.M. DeMatteis came up with the concept for [...]
A World (Okay, a Week) Without Comics?
I think we’re all used to the Holiday shipping schedules for comic books, where major holidays in the United States push comic book deliveries back X amount of days (usually one or two) when it comes Christmastime or New Year’s. Well, this year, things are going to be a bit different. Comics will be on-sale [...]
Scott’s Classic Comics Corner: Attack of the Casper Clones
Everyone is familiar with Casper, the Friendly Ghost and his little Casperverse at Harvey Comics, but did you know that from the mid 40s right up until the early 70s a number of Casper clones haunted the funnybook world?

On the 24th, you folks will get a chance to pick your [...]

From Bleeding Cool: Apparently Blog@Newsarama is responsible for the Siegel estate taking more of the origin of Superman IP back from DC Comics/Warner Bros. See DC? This is what happens when you stop giving stories exclusively to Newsarama and either a) let CBR and IGN on on the act or b) set up your own [...]
Danielle Leigh’s Reading Diary — Ooku: The Inner Chambers vol 1
Fumi Yoshinaga has masterfully invented her own genre with Ooku: The Inner Chambers. She blends an underlying science fiction premise with a bird’s eye view of the intimately political and politically intimate life of a fantasy Tokugawa government and its leader, the shogun. Of course, there’s a little bit of romance as well. Also, did [...]
The Reread Reviews — Young Liars Finale Countdown (Issue 16)
In the lead-up to Young Liars ending on September 2 with issue 18, I will be rereading the 17 issues already out and discussing them at a rate of one issue per day. I haven’t reread any of these comics since they came out, so it should be fun. Spoilers, of course. Let’s dance!

For the past few weeks, my children have been driving me nuts. Now they’re both in school (the four-year-old is at pre-school, but still, she’s out of my hair for a few hours a day), and I can read stuff without getting up every five minutes to see what mischief they’re up to!

Asterios Polyp by David Mazzucchelli surely deserves an extensive review, as it is that stunning and that important of a comic book work. But I don’t have the time right now to give it the kind of review it deserves. The book is insanely rich in imagery and references – if you thought Alan Moore [...]

So, there’s been a lot of discussion over which panel is the “iconic” one in Amazing Spider-Man #33. Is it the one where Spider-Man is in the midst of lifting the machinery or is it the one where Spider-Man finally succeeds in lifting the machinery (sorry people who think that some random other panel from [...]

A Year of Cool Comic Book Moments – Day 228
Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far! The recent look at Kurt Busiek’s Avengers run reminded me that we should take a look at the Thunderbolts #1 reveal [...]
