In general, we refer to any cover with one character holding another character outstretched in his/her arms as a “Pieta” cover, after the famous Michelangelo statue of Mary holding Jesus’ body. Well, I was just doing a bit about La Pieta at Legends Revealed here, and it reminded me of the last time I did [...]

In the lead-up to Young Liars ending on September 2 with issue 18, I will be rereading the 17 issues already out and discussing them at a rate of one issue per day. I haven’t reread any of these comics since they came out, so it should be fun. Spoilers, of course. Let’s dance!
Danielle Leigh’s Reading Diary — Angelic Runes vol 1
Makoto Tateno is best known for her boys’ love work in the U.S., which makes her engrossing take on the fantasy genre in Angelic Runes that much more surprising.

Danielle Leigh’s Reading Diary — Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit vol 2
Motoro Mase’s Ikigami is an adult version of Death Note, where death is meted out not by a sociopath with a god-complex, but randomly by the government to ensure social order. It’s a great concept that makes for some very dark, and sometimes even inspiring, storytelling.
