A Year of Cool Comic Book Moments – Day 263

Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far!

Today we see what happens when the Cherries clash with…the Pirates of Coney Island (the clash is not without its share of profanity!)!!

In The Pirates of Coney Island #1, by Rick Spears and Vasilis Lolos, we met a gang of teen girls who come across a runaway teen and attack him, with the head girl of the gang cutting his eye out.

The boy eventually joins up with a male teen gang, the preeminent teen gang of Coney Island – the Pirates of Coney Island!

In Pirates of Coney Island #4, the Pirates and the Cherries finally have it out…

They then break up into one-on-one matchups, and here is Patch trying to take down Trish…

What a great moment with Patch and the fish. I’d say the fish telling him “great save” was “the” moment.

Will Patch catch Trish? What will happen next? Buy Pirates of Coney Island, people (maybe it will actually finish then!)!

I swear, for a second there, I thought he was gonna put the fish in his eye socket.

I also thought of just posting the first two pages and just having “a fucking pipe” be “the” moment. That was awesome.

If by the end of this series you haven’t post anything about Craig Thomson or Daniel Clowes I’m ganne get angry.
And you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.

(this series, so far, so good, glad to see you’re referencing indie books and not only the ever-present Marvel / DC)

I am sorry, Captain Fur, you will be angry, as Craig Thompson will not be appearing.

Clowes, though, sure.

Brian, when do the JLA show up and start kicking ass? ;)

Pirates of Coney Island is too good not to finish. But that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

Vasilis Lolos is a bit like an anime Paul Pope, huh? The facial expressions on the little girl are priceless.

A cute save, but not credible. If you cup your hands tightly enough, they won’t leak water. Hold the fish under the stream of water until the little girl or someone fetches a container. Between the trash and the litter, an amusement park must be a gold mine of discarded cups and cartons.

If Batman and the JLA were in this story, they would’ve thought of this solution.

You make me very sad, Mr. Schmidt.

I’m pretty sure that was a mock nit-pick by Rob, Danny.

Argh, how humorless I seem. My response was trying to be more of a playing along “damn, you’re right, my entire world has been turned upside down, please give me a tissue and bon bons” than a “GRAA YOU RUIN EVERYTHING.” Ooops.

My inability to effectively post on the Internet aside…

I wonder, however, is the coolness of the moment nullified by the fact that the carnival fishie is probably not going to live very long? Like, beyond the following 24 hours? Have you guys considered doing a week of deceptively tragic comic book moments? Will the Internet fill with tears? How great will Vasilis Lolos expressions be when he renders the “little girl finds the gold fish on the bedroom floor” sequence? Have I depressed everyone yet?
