A Year of Cool Comic Book Moments – Day 264

Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far!

Okay, I just couldn’t help but show another bit from the Cherries/Pirates clash from Pirates of Coney Island #4!

To recap, here was the match-up…

And now, we see Knievel (the Pirates driver) versus Darcy, courtesy of the book’s writer, Rick Spears, and its artist, Vasilis Lolos…

I just love how Spears works these little moments of humanity into the crazy whacked out over the top action of the comic, and Lolos is always great.

That was a great sequence.

The first two pages were pure Frank Miller, which made the crying such a cool twist.

I definitely expected a knee to the groin there, not a kiss.

I am not sure how one goes from swinging a baseball bat full speed at another human being’s head from behind to kissing them 15 seconds later.

That’s part of what’s interesting about these characters – they live these lives as gang members and “pirates” but really, at the heart of it all, they’re still just barely older than kids.

Waaaaaaaaaarrrrriiiiooooooooorrrrsssss, come out to plaaaaaaa-yaaaaaaaaay

Does anyone else think the art looks a lot like Jamie Hewlett?

Sure, that’s likely an influence. So’s Paul Pope.

I can’t help but think of Brian Wood’s Supermarket when looking at those panels… I quite enjoy them by the way, looks to be a story worth following.

Not what I was expecting.
