A Year of Cool Comic Book Moments – Day 282
Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far!
On second thought, let me return to the resolution of Hellblazer #71 some other time. Instead, let’s look at a great Human Target moment, courtesy of Peter Milligan and the late, great Edvin Biukovic!

Here, in Human Target #1, we see a Reverend talking to his wife – obviously, this being the Human Target (who impersonates people who are being, you know, targeted), we presume the Reverend is actually Christopher Chance

“The” moment for me is when the “Reverend” raises his hands with the guns out – such an amazing panel by the great Biukovic.

Loved, loved, loved Milligan’s Human Target. He made the concept really work. It’s too bad the TV show seems to be heading in a different direction, because this version was so awesome and cinematic, it would have translated so well.

Hey, Warlord Cro, if you enjoyed that, check the two Grendel limited series Biukovic did with his usual writing partner Darko Macan. They are even better than this story (which is very good to begin with). Loads of cool comic book moments all over them!
Best,
Hunter (Pedro Bouça)

This mini had great art, but I thought Milligan only found the perfect formula for Human Target with the graphic novel and the ongoing series that followed the mini. Too bad the series was cancelled, there were some incredible moments there. Milligan took the postmodern idea of instabile/non-grounded identity and really explored it in some of the best stories he’s ever written. But I guess these sort of themes, and the lack of gore and monsters and magic, made the series too sublime even for Vertigo readers.

This particular mini-series is probably the best story arc in all of Milligan’s Human Target series.
It’s really too bad about Biukovic’s untimely passing. He had a great future ahead of him.

Excellent book overall but an especially great action sequence showing off the talents of Biukovic. What a talent.

that is one of the moments i loved about the series for doubtfull the real rev would have been packing heat and shot down a missle from a bazoka. too bad the creators of the tv version will not be allowed by fox to use that story .

That was a brilliantly choreographed sequence of events. Biukovic’s art was simply gorgeous stuff! What a great loss…

This was awesome. The only part I did not like was the RPG.

I believe this is the first cool comic book moments with a rocket launcher being fired in a church.. and it’s done with some damn fine artwork.
