John Cassaday should get a lot of credit for such great versions of Batman.

Brian, was the first version of Batman the one that was appearing at the time?

Well, I don’t know what tomorrow’s moment is, but “tell me you’re single” has a pretty amusing callback at the end of the issue. I think it’s actually a bit more fun than the line itself, so there’s a chance everyone will still be happy. And by everyone, I mean me.

Pretty much every line out of Adam West Batman’s mouth is gold here. And the Drummer’s line.

The problem with the “single” line is that to get it in, I’d really have to do three days of moments, and I thought that that was a bit much.

It would have been even better if DC editorial hadn’t forced Cassaday to slightly alter the Adam West Batman who looked even more like Adam West (yellow oval around the bat, actual eyes in the cowl) when it was originally drawn

Any idea why they made him change it?

Zero hour.

I recall that one of the issues in that crossover showed earlier incantations of Batman. That included Miller’s DKR, Neal Adams (complete with the hand pose) and I think one form Bob Kane.

Ellis is so good at aping other interpretations of The Goddamn Batman that it makes me VERY curious as to what his own interpretation of the character might be like…

I’d say there were two more great moments from before this:

1) the picture of three people melded together, with the explanation of a “partial multiverse collapse” in 1985 — hey, that’s Crisis on Infinite Earths!

2) Jakita, upon seeing Batman for the first time in his outfit dishing out justice: “Tell me you’re single.”

Tomorrow’s installment better have some purple gloves on…
