A Year of Cool Comic Book Moments – Day 325
Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far!
Let’s take a look at Planetary/JLA: Terra Obscura, by Warren Ellis and Jerry Ordway.
Okay, the gist of this comic is that the Planetary folks are all bad guys in this universe. Elijah Snow is just what he feared in his own reality – someone who would hoard technology to keep the people of the world down.
So now Clark Kent, Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne are forming a League to stop them.
They’re on the Planetary moon-base and they’ve managed to stop Ambrose Chase, but Clark Kent has been killed, leaving Bruce and Diana to face off against Elijah and Jakita, respectively (so just imagine that concurrent to this scene, Diana is fighting Jakita)…

What a cool ending.

Wow! I’d read planetary/Batman, but I’ve never seen this. Another one to add to the list..

Did anyone else think Snow looked a lot like Lex Luthor?

Anything that’s Planetary-related written by Warren Ellis is definitely required reading.
No doubt.
Is Planetary: Ruling the World going to be the next cool moment?

Yeah. It’s a long time since I’ve read this, but I think that was on purpose

Wow, hardcore. Nice take on Wonder Woman here.
Batman, as always cool in any universe.

loved how in that time line batman man still will not break his vow of not kiling yet Diana once again had to give into her warrior instinct and decided it was for the best to kill snow plus loved seeing metaphoro cyborg and swamp thing even though it was creepy to see them as trophies

Not only does Snow look just like Lex, he looks a whole hell of a lot like Kevin Spacey’s Lex.

That ending was spoiled by the final image of Clark’s dead body floating through space. Real downer that.

That’s why I skipped that.

I was just about to ask why you didn’t include Clark’s body…
Love the lttle touches in this, like Doomsday’s frost covered statue/body…
This is really SCREAMING to be put out in an Absolute…

For me, the moment is definitely “Twenty. Years. Training.”
Brian, is the Wonder Woman/Jakita fight as good?

Not as good as that (hence me going with this one, natch), but still very, very good.

It was a pretty good issue. HOWEVER, Warren Ellis never actually shows how Wonder Woman defeats Jakita. Which is a serious omission. (You need to show; Not tell)

Just checked, and Absolute Planetary Volume 2 is not out until June 2010!!!
However, in nicer news, “Nextwave : Agents of H.A.T.E. Ultimate Collection” which “includes the hlarious letters pages” is out in February…
That’ll tide me over nicely…
