Guess the Real Spoiler! (December 2, 2009)

Welcome to the brand new Comics Should be Good game inspired by the US having its comics delayed a day because of Thanksgiving while comics still ship today in Canada (and other countries like Israel apparently). I thought this might be a fun way for me to lord my getting comics a day before most of the comic-reading population online — fun for me and you (possibly). Below the cut, I will provide a spoiler for every comic that I bought this week and all of them will be fake except for one — and I want you to guess which is the real one. If people enjoy this game, I’ll bring back any time a US holiday leads to their books being delayed a day and maybe do variations depending on the amount of comics I get that week. For now, click on the link, journey beneath the cut, and, of course, there are spoilers.

Edit: Solution is at the end of the post under the cut.

This week, I got 12 books, so it’s a nice, healthy batch to possibly spoil…

Absolution #4: John Dusk is forced to kill a fellow cop when he discovers his secret.

The Boys #37: The Frenchman, it turns out, was actually born in Quebec.

Dark Avengers annual #1: Osborn sends the Avegers after Noh-Varr and, just when it seems he’s outmatched, a bullet takes out Hawkeye’s kneecap and it’s Oubliette… she’s back!

glamourpuss #10: Gene Colan once drew an issue of Daredevil in two days to meet a deadline after another artist fell through/lied again and again to his editor.

Great Ten #2: The issue ends with August General in Iron killing the lead god after a resounding battle.

Greek Street #6: Eddie and Sandy are arrested soon after arriving in London, and the issue ends with the Furey boys bribing a guard so they can kill Eddie, while Sandy is released back to her father and mother.

Marvels Project #4: The Human Torch is captured during a mission to kill Hitler that goes wrong thanks to double agent.

Scalped #33: Dash Bad Horse is discovered to be an FBI agent by Red Crow, the issue ending with a gun pressed to Dash’s head as Red Crow prepares to kill him.

Siege: The Cabal #1: Norman Osborn’s secret enforcer/weapon stands revealed… and it isn’t Marvelman. It’s Kid Marvelman.

Supergod #2: The Cuban superhuman’s creation results in the desctruction of Florida.

Thor #604: Baldur and the Asgardians capture Loki and sentence him to death after Baldur slashes his face with a sword.

What If? Secret Invasion #1: In the lead story, the Skrulls won the secret invasion when, at the end, instead of killing the Skrull Queen, Norman Osborn said “He loves you” and then began mowing down heroes, starting with Spider-Man (of course).

Which one is the real spoiler? I’ll edit the post to announce the correct answer around 10 am tomorrow morning. Good luck!

Solution: Thor #604 is the real spoiler. The rest were fakes written by me. Thanks for playing!

Money’s on Supergod.

Although Greek Street is my second bet.

I vote What if. Just because.

I’ll be boring and say it’s glamourpuss.

Also, who the hell is Ouiblette?

I vote The Boys. Frenchman a Candian? What a twist!

Oubliette was a character from Morrison’s Marvel Boy mini years ago. http://marvel.wikia.com/File:Oubliette_Midas_(Earth-616).jpg

If Siege: The Cabal is the real spoiler, I’ll kill Joe Quesada. My money’s on Dark Avengers.

Geez lookit that awful costume. How very appropriate her name comes from the French word meaning “to forget.”

I totally misread the instructions at first and was trying to determine which one was fake. That got really hilarious around Siege: The Cabal.

Scalped is real. It just seems like it’s time for Red Crow to find out.

I’m loving the variety of answers. I was afraid it would turn out that the real one would be obvious to everyone amid a bunch of poorly-conceived fake ones. Thankfully, it hasn’t turned out that way (yet!).

Scalped occured to me also, but then I figured that if the series is going to continue in anything resembling the current form, that can’t possibly be it. Then again, Jason Aaron is way more creative than me.

I love Scalped.

Thor. That sounds like a good start to a new writer’s run.

First I glanced at the titles, just to make sure there wasn’t anything I want to buy. I didn’t want to take the chance on buying the one with the real spoiler and having it ruined here.
I have no guesses as to which is real because I’m not familiar with most of these series.
I was just wondering why US comics would be delayed this week. Shouldn’t it have been last week?

If it is Scalped, I will totally kill you for spoiling it!

And if it is the Siege one, then I can’t wait to see what the internet is going to look like tomorrow!

gotta go with Dark Avengers annual

I work at an American comic store and we got our order today.

That said, I won’t spoil the game

My guess is Marvels Project, although there’s a few good possibilities on that list.

I’ll score with Thor.

If it were the Siege one, I think the internet would have exploded yesterday. Somebody always has spoilers available by Tuesday. I’ll go with the Thor one, since it seems to be the most harmless of the possibilities.

The Boys, because that’s totally an Ennis joke.

I’d say it’s definitely not The Boys, but I’ve no idea what one it is.

i would go with dark avengers for marvel did not aquire mircle man when the cabal was formed so got to go with dark avengers.

“If it is Scalped, I will totally kill you for spoiling it!”

How ’bout you kill him anyway? He’s Canadian. ;-)

I thought it was already known that Osborn’s secret weapon was Molecule Man?

Impossible. They only met in the last couple of issues of DA.

Absolution of course

or maybe Supergod now that i think about it

Also, who the hell is Ouiblette?

You haven’t read Marvel Boy?

I’ll go with Dark Avengers

so wait, Siege the Cabal came out TODAY and it apparently the enforce is never revealed and remains inthe shadows. The gender is hinted as male with ability wield lightning bolts? A norse god or possibly Nate Grey himself? I’m not familiar at all with Thor’s rivals other than Loki. S. Invasion kind of took the enthusiasm out of me when it comes to investigating Marvel paranormal activity.

Is that Supergod thing a reference to the fact that “Cuban Superman” is an archaic (as in 40s-50s or earlier stag film & peep loops stuff) term for an extremely well-endowed male porn star? Or is that a completely forgotten bit of trivia?

Guys come on, There’s no way it’s SuperGod. Personally I hope it’s Dark Avengers but I am pretty sure it’s Glamourpuss…seeing as it’s not a spoiler at all.

Got my books today. Only one was on your list, and it wasn’t spoiled (thankfully).

glamourpuss, because Gene Colan.

“Impossible. They only met in the last couple of issues of DA.”

Hmmm. I’m betting there’s some kind of reveal that they have met before, and Molecule Man’s got a beef with Osborn now for some reason.

Having been reading and loving DA, it’s definitely not the Molecule Man. It’s a first meeting set in “present time” and went horribly.

Alright, I stand probably corrected.

I’m guessing it’s What If, because no one would care if the spoiler is revealed…It’s not a real storyline!

glamourpuss #10

Absolution seems the most likely to me just because the end of this issue puts the series into the final stretch, and it needs something to ratchet up the stakes for the final two issues. Plus this seems like just the kind of thing a writer would pull on an Avatar book.

I`ll vote for Scalped – it`s high time Daniel got unmasked and it`ll add loads of tension and potential for new storilines.

Glamourpuss…

Though a part of me wants it to be Siege: The Cabal… :-)

The real spoiler: Thor #604. Thanks for playing!

I knew the glamorpuss one was fake, because the penciller who preceded Colan on DD was John Romita, Sr., and I strongly doubt that guy was ever late with a pencilling job in his life. And he certainly never got fired from a book by Stan.

Seems like the real ending of DA Annual 1 MIGHT even be a spolier itself.

I got one of these kind of things right, for once…
