Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the comics posted so far!
We continue the Cool Christmas Comic Countdown with a nifty Christmas story from the 2009 DC Universe Holiday Special #1 by Fred Van Lente (funny that) and Nick Dragotta…
The story, “The Reason for the Season,” takes place in the early years of J’onn J’onnz’s time in the Denver police department.
It’s a really great insight into the inner thinkings of the mind of J’onn J’onnz. The artwork by Nick Dragotta is top notch, as well.
Here’s a sampling of the beginning of the tale..
Dragotta has a really striking page after this and then the whole story comes to an interesting conclusion (tied into the holidays AND J’onn’s Martian life).
The Holiday Special also has a few other cool stories, in particular Amy Wolfman, Sterling Gates, Beau Smith and J. Torres have really strong stories.
