A Year of Cool Comics – Day 356
Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the comics posted so far!
We continue the Cool Christmas Comic Countdown with the great Batman Adventures Holiday Special #1 from 1995…
Enjoy!
This awesome special opens up with a Batgirl/Harvey Bullock story by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm…

Great character work with Bullock there, no?
And check out this great Timm sequence..

Very neat.
The highlight of the book, though, is the second story, telling the tale of how Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy team-up to hypnotize Bruce Wayne into sponsoring a shopping spree for them…

Pretty bad-ass artwork by Ronnie Del Carmen, eh? Paul Dini’s story was a blast, as well.
Dini’s next story is a Mister Freeze tale by Dini and artist Glen Murakami…check out the awesome work by Murakami.

How amazing is that shot of Batman in the snow? Brilliant storytelling.
Paul Dini and Bruce Timm provided the story for this intriguing Joker story, with artwork by Kevin Altieri and Butch Lukic…

Finally, Dini and artist Dan Riba tell a charming New Year’s tale about Batman and Commissioner Gordon’s friendship…

What a great collection of talent in one volume!!

wowwee.
there’s some book, maybe a volume of Timm’s comics work, with an alternate version of that Batgirl changing page, I believe. I think he had to tone down the sexy. Still there.

Didn’t they turn most of these stories into an episode? I do recall Batgirl’s and more/less interpetation of Joker’s with the same ending with Batman and Gordon.

@Lando and chad: I just watched that episode last week — they actually included all of the stories except the Mr. Freeze one (a pity, as it was my favourite.)
Brian, was this the only time an issue or Batman Adventures or its successors (as opposed to Batman, Detective or one of the other regular-DCU books) got adapted for animation?

The whole issue — except for the Mr. Freeze story — was turned into the NBA episode “Gotham Knights”.

“The whole issue — except for the Mr. Freeze story — was turned into the NBA episode “Gotham Knights”.”
Actually, the title of the episode was “Holiday Knights”.

I think I saw that episode, but my memory is kind of fuzzy. I just remember the Ivy and Harley part.

You are correct, Akaky — I had mixed the epi title with the referent.
