Spoilers for Marvel’s April 2010 Books?

David Uzumeri (who you may know from Funybook Babylon and the Savage Critics) posted a link to the Diamond order form for April 2010’s books on Twitter and it includes a few very interesting books from Marvel. I’ll discuss that in more detail below the cut to avoid possible spoilers…

Some of the books shipping in April apparently:

New Avengers Finale #1; something called Fallen, five Siege-related one-shots devoted to Loki, Spider-Man, Captain America, Young Avengers, and Secret Warriors; Captain America: Who Won’t Wield the Shield #1; Thor and the Warriors Four #1 (listed apart from the Siege books, though). Plus a few others like the second Ultimate Comics Avengers arc restarting the series instead of being solicited as issue seven, a Deadpool Corps series, and the appearance of Philip K. Dick’s Electric Ant #1 by David Mack finally.

Any thoughts?

Edit: As was pointed out in the comments, IGN’s solicits preview reports that all four Avengers ongoings are ending in April.

New Avengers Finale? Normally, I’m one of the very few who has few gripes with Bendis and however he decides to shake things up, buuuuut…. ~grumble-grumble~ I may be joining the masses if he tears apart the Avengers dream-team.

Actually sounds like he’s tearing apart the team everyone hated in the first place. I’d assume New Avengers is making way for a “new” Avengers book, most likely featuring a very classic line-up to lead the “Heroic Age”.

Some interesting tiles there, still need to look over the .pdf in the link.

Seriously… more Deadpool? Seriously? And I thought the X-Titles of the 90s were too numerous.

Is this what we’ve come to? Leaking order form early and speculating on what will be in the solicits?

Apparently, yes.

And it’s not ‘leaked,’ it’s from Diamond’s website which I found on my own on their site just so I knew I wasn’t posting something that wasn’t available to the public.

I guess Marvel is taking the position that numbering is completely pointless for things like, I dunno, understanding what order things go in

HOH?HER-OES?

Stuff actually looks good.

“I guess Marvel is taking the position that numbering is completely pointless for things like, I dunno, understanding what order things go in”

Because common sense and publication dates aren’t enough, right?

I’d imagine the Warriors Four is the former three plus Hercules or Bill from the JMS issues brought back to life?

Common sense among comic fans? Is that a joke?

NA a “dream team”?

I know Iron Man 2 is coming out and all, but I don’t think there’s any need for them to do an Iron Man Noir series. I mean really now.

Since it’s the Apris solicits, this looks more like an April Fool’s preview…

I’ve been a New Avengers fan since the beginning of my comics reading days and while I have always liked the idea of the ORIGINAL TEAM and the more SUPERHEROIC dealings they had, I could never find much in the way of material that really grabbed me. Now with Slott’s Mighty Avengers I feel like I’m getting a hint of it, but the New Avengers team still being around sort of doesn’t feel right. If this is the end of New Avengers, I just hope it’s so they can go FULL-FORCE on Mighty or even just an “THE AVENGERS” volume.

If it isn’t the end of New/Mighty? Well, I’ll still read both cause I luv’em.

You’d think there was an Iron Man movie on the horizon . . .

IRON MAN LEGACY #1
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #25
IRON MAN 1.5 #2 (OF 3)
IRON MAN 1.5 #3 (OF 3)
IRON MAN NOIR #1 (OF 4)
IRON MANUAL MARK 3 #1
IRON MAN MAGAZINE #1
IRON MAN POSTER BOOK

Avenger solits on IGN. All four avengers books are ending.

DC has the two First Wave ongoings starting. ASM looks like it sin’t going to be weekly after the 5 issues in March. The Marvel ones seem like April-Fool’s jokes. They are just way too cheesy to be true. Haha!

Mag — I added a link in my post. Thanks.

IRON MAN POSTER BOOK?

I’m ordering a gross!

“Common sense among comic fans? Is that a joke?”

You’re right, what was I thinking? Comic fans are the biggest group of retards ever.

For what it’s worth, Ares and the Sentry are both missing from that Dark Avengers cover . . .

I agree, what the hell is Iron Man Noir going to be about?

Actually sounds like he’s tearing apart the team everyone hated in the first place. I’d assume New Avengers is making way for a “new” Avengers book, most likely featuring a very classic line-up to lead the “Heroic Age”.

Yeah, “everyone” hated the New Avengers book so much the sales shot through the roof.

Siege #4:

“Every single page of this book is a shocker: Lives are changed. Heroes fall. Deaths. Revenge. Villain comeuppance. And when the dust settles, who will be in charge of the Marvel Universe?? ”

No overselling here.

You know I heard Tom B. admit on this here site, the Avengers would never reunite or you won’t see a classic lineup with the Big 3. Must’ve been misdirection…

Captain America: Who won’t Wield the Shield. Really? You mean people aren’t embarrassed printing a book with that title?

i think the Marvel Masterworks edition of Black Panther in Jungle Action is the most amazing thing on there!!! first time ever reprinted to the best of my knowledge.

“Yeah, “everyone” hated the New Avengers book so much the sales shot through the roof.”

I guess it’s true, you can’t type facetiously on the web. It’s all serious business.

That comment was in no way supposed to be taken literally. More than anything, it was my own subtle dig at the loudmouths shouting about how it was the worst thing ever. Too subtle, perhaps? Personally, I enjoyed the book, and am excited to see where this is all going, because I doubt it’s where we expect.

Adam Kirby said:

“Because common sense and publication dates aren’t enough, right?”

Yeah…how’d that work out for Wolverine last year?

I guess it’s true, you can’t type facetiously on the web. It’s all serious business.

In my defense, I’ve seen that sentiment, along with “Everyone hates Brand New Day”, typed so often on the Internet in 100% seriousness that I couldn’t help but take it at face value.

“Because common sense and publication dates aren’t enough, right?”

“Yeah…how’d that work out for Wolverine last year?”

Just fine for me, because me, just like goddamn near everyone else, has the internet to tell them what’s what, and that’s not counting that I’m pretty sure everything said “OLD MAN LOGAN” on it if that’s what it was. Those last two issues didn’t say it, and you’d have to be a blind buyer to pick those up without knowing what you were getting. And if you were blindly buying Wolverine books, it doesn’t matter, because you were gonna get that Giant Size final issue anyway.

As long as I still get at least on Avengers title written by Bendis I’ll be happy. Hopefully Ares will be in said book.

at least ONE, not on

Two words on Iron Man Noir: Steam. Punk.

So if all the Avengers books are ending, what happens with subscriptions? Good old-fashioned mail-order subscriptions– they do still exist, you know. (You can get one at Marvel’s website. And it’s a great deal. Four dollar books like New Avengers are the same price as the three dollar titles, which is why I got my subscription in the first place.) Will I get to transfer my subscription to the new Avengers title? What is Marvel’s policy on subscriptions to books that get cancelled? I never subscribed to anything until Amazing Spider-Man went to three times a month, so I don’t know what Marvel’s policy has been on stuff like this in the past. (I have noticed that the order form for additional subscriptions that I get with every issue still has Ms Marvel listed. And last year, they had She-Hulk up until just after the last issue came out.)

Subscriptions usually get shifted to a similar book of some kind.

Bendis has said in interviews he intends to remain involved in the Avengers universe. My hope is that we get a “traditional” Avengers book with Cap, Thor, Iron Man facing major, world shaking Marvel threats.
I don’t “hate” Bendis and have enjoyed some of his work on New Avengers.
However if he gets a “street level” Avengers book – perhaps the team, rather than East and West Coast, decides to have an “America-centric” team and a World-wide threat team – then I hope that he just tells some solid superhero yarns and stays away from never-ending conspiracy stories.
That for me was the downfall of Bendis’ Avengers books. Most of the time it felt like fillerjust waiting for the next big event – from Civil War to Secret Invasion to Seige.
I want excellent Avengers stories that stand on their own and are not “leading” to anything other than the next excellent Avengers story.
If Bendis can do that and continue some of his good character work, I’ll be on board his Avengers title as well

My guess: Starting in May, one Avengers book, either weekly or three-a-month like ASM. Starting either at #1 or with whatever big round number they can make sound plausible at this point. (600? 700?)
