2/9 – Well-Mannered Weller says…

Dearest Friends at Dynamite Entertainment,

Were you to entertain the notion of a second RoboCop comic book periodical series and wished it to be one of high repute, I would, without hesitation, recommend my good friend Bill Reed, a writer of fine caliber and excellent breeding. I am certain that he could bring infinite justice to the cybernetic legacy of the future of law enforcement.

Your friend,
Peter Weller*

weller

*Disclaimer: The above opinions of Mr. Weller are not the opinions of Comic Book Resources or Comics Should Be Good, nor, in fact, the opinions of Peter Weller**, who has never actually met or contacted Bill Reed in any capacity, and is not, as some claims state, part machine.

** Peter Weller will return in Peter Weller vs. The World Crime League.

And you have to trust a guy who can wear those sunglasses and a scarf without seeming like an escaped mental patient.

yeah,he really pulls it off, doesn’t he?

That look is for his new role as Lex Luthor in Nolan’s Superman reboot.

Weller teaches history at Syracuse these days. It’s very odd. He showed up on a History Channel documentary a few years ago, and I yelled, “It’s RoboCop!” That’s when I learned my lovely wife had never seen RoboCop, which has really put a strain on the whole relationship. How can I expect her to raise the children correctly if she’s never seen RoboCop?!?!?!??!?

I’d buy that for a dollar

(somebody had to do it)

I think he’s auditioning as the Doctor for an Authority movie.

Give Reed the gig, or…there’ll be trouble.

i’ve never seen RoboCop. Any of them…but i have seen Buckaroo Banzai, so i did understand that jab/reference at the end.

Maybe you should watch Robocop with your wife, Greg? Just a suggestion.

I hated Robocop, but I like the Buckaroo Banzai reference.

Robocop is one of my favourite films of all time. Pure class!

Okay…I’ll be the first to say it…

I’ve watched RoboCop, but I’ve never seen Buckaroo Banzai.
Heck…I’ve never even read the Marvel adaptation of BB.

It’s almost like Weller’s channeling Andy Warhol with that style.

Lastly…
We should have learned from RoboCop that it’s a bad idea to let Frank Miller anywhere near the silver screen.

Robocop is an absolute classic, but I know nothing about Buckaroo Banzai.

I think it’s quite cool that he’s teaching history.

They’ll fix it… They fix everything…

Oh no!

No disrespect to Mr. Reed, please don’t tell me CSBG is becoming one of those blogs where the author starts to point out how much he/she really wants to be the writer of a series despite not even being in the industry. I’ve seen far too many “If I was writing Superman…” or “If DC let me write Batman, I would…” as if DC/Marvel/Insert Company Here staffers cruise messageboards to pick up new writing talent.

I know it’s all in humor/wishful thinking, but I hope it stays that way!

I’ve been doing bits like this since 2005, Michael, so I’d hardly say the blog is “becoming” anything.

For a true eighties experience I recommend watching the original RoboCop, then reading American Flagg, then follow up with some episodes of Max Headroom. They capture a lot of the blending of story with media commentary and the impact of television and consumer culture from when I was growing up.

I’ve never even heard of Buckaroo Banzai

YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF BUCKAROO BANZAI?

Don’t rent it. Buy it. Now. Go. I’ll wait.

It’s the most serious movie ever made!

Guess your talents haven’t been called on yet, huh?

*sob* I’VE WASTED MY LIFE

I once read a review on a site, where the review didn’t so much review the issue, as compared it to what he would have done if he had written the issue.
And it wasn’t a joke.

Bill’s not do anything near that.

Apparantly so. And here was me thinking it was a dark comedy satire.

I’m aware he was kidding. But EVERY comic book reader probably has some hankering to write a character he/she likes, but I’m just pointing out how amateur-ish is comes off as, as you’ve demonstrated.

I’ve noticed Bill has done it a few times in his posts and while I understand he is joking it doesn’t make it any less silly. But that’s just my opinion, I guess. If other people think it’s funny, I’ll just leave it be.

But this isn’t Bill saying it, it’s Peter ‘I hand fucked a type-writers vagina in Naked Lunch’ Weller!
