The four of them were easy choices for me: Superman, Rorschach, Spider-Man, and Wolverine.

Batman, Rorschach, Hal Jordan, Darkseid.
Interesting to see two GLs make it to the final 8.

i picked . batman . dark side. green lantern and kyle for the power ring would beat anything and not even wolverins healing factor would stand up to dark sides omega beams.

1. Batman borrows a book on magic and turns Superman into a frog. He tells Clark to get the hell out of his cave.
2. Rorschach breaks Kyle’s ring finger for information and then kicks him down an elevator shaft.
3. Spider-Man makes fun of the time Hal had gray sideburns. GL runs home and cries himself to sleep on his big green pillow.
4. Wolverine gets burned down to his skeleton by some Omega Beams but somehow he spontaneously regenerates and lops off Darkseids head. Logan joins 3 or 4 Apokolips super teams in his spare time.

This does raise the question: Which is a worse retcon, Yellow Fear Monster or “I Want Your Marriage!”?

Batman, Rorschach , Hal Jordan, and Wolverine.

In a universe where the living embodiment of evil defeating a guy with metal claws can be considered an “upset”, I went with Batman, Rorschach, Spider-Man, and Darkseid.

Death not an option: Spidey, Batman, Kyle, and Logan. My two cents on Hal:
I’m with Crash-Man on Hal/Spidey, but then people are voting on last week so I can’t say it would surprise me if Hal did pull the upset. Hal’s a character that the DC editorial staff once wrote (and I quote): It was hard to tell stories ABOUT the character. Hal was either too nice or a jerk, leaving no lasting impression.
I would point out that this is them writing that, not me (GL 2nd series 50).
I’d also point out that he’s largely a secondary character in Blackest Night as well…for what it’s worth, and that was supposed to be his big crossover event.

Parallax as a yellow fear monster is a great retcon.

Here are my votes, same criteria (character interest plus story engine potential) as before. Again, as before, each match-up will be evaluated on the basis of period continuity only. For example, the Batman/Superman matchup will be decided on the basis of Golden Age continuity, not on post-GA developments.
1. Batman: No contest.Batman easily outclasses Superman in terms of story engine potential. Simply compare Batman’s GA Rogues’ Gallery to Superman’s : the Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, Penguin, etc. vs. Luthor (a generic mad scientist), the Prankster, the imp from the 5th dimension, the Prankster, etc.For that matter, The GA Batman’s superiority is evidenced by the fact that post-Ga iterations of the character have frequently gone back to the GA version of Batman (O’Neill’s 70s Batman, the Englehart/Marshall Rogers version, FRank Miller’s YEAR ONE and DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, etc.).Superman’s creative teams, in contrast, seem to prefer harking back to the Weisinger SA Superman.
2. Kyle Raynor: Very tough call. Rorschach outclasses Kyle in terms of character interest, but he is somewhat limited in story engine potential. As Comics are a serialized form of literature, Kyle gets the nod on the basis of a superior stor engine.
3.Spider-Man: No contest. Spider-Man is the most painfully realistic character of the SA, while Hal Jordan is pure DC Silver Age styrofoam.
4. Wolverine: Tough call. Darkseid is a great creation, but he is severely limited in terms of characterization (When you are the ultimate evil, there is not much room for growth). Logan, in contrast, has a deeper, more complex personalty.

I voted Batman, Rorschach, Spider-Man and Wolverine. Only the last choice made me hesitate at all.

I thought these were tough – several of these guys are among my favorite characters. Hal Jordan-Spider-Man was probably my toughest decision — the tiebreak went to Spidey as I have overall more Spider-Man comics in my collection. But it was tough.
I have more Kyle Rayner comics than Rorschach, but I have all the Rorschach comics there are, and Watchmen is an all-time favorite, so, Rorschach.
Superman over Batman because that’s the kind of guy I am (though Batman’s probably my third-favorite character.)
And Wolverine got the nod over Darkseid even though Darkseid’s a great character. The best villain in comics, judging from this vote, in fact. But I had an Art Adams Wolverine poster on my wall for much of my teenage years, so Logan gets a nostalgic vote.

Rorscach? Really? Bad enough that he made it past Constantine, who is infinitely cooler and better in literally every regard except for, I guess, “costume,” but the likelihood that he’ll make the top four is a bit of a joke, given that he’s only appeared in two projects altogether and one of which (the movie) was horrible and botched the character almost as badly as GL and Spider-Man are being criticized for.

Spruce – same votes. Always preferred Batman, one of the few superheroes you could possibly believe might exist in the real world, in that he’s no special powers; plus the orphan angle as a strong motive you can identify with (of course you have to suspend the disbelief over the obsessive roaming the streets in his underwear….).
Loved Watchmen.
Spidey – no contest.
Darkseid – loved Kirby’s Fourth World – so no contest again. Tough on Wolvie, but he’s been so overexposed over the last decade or two.
Cheers Pete

The hardest vote for me was Superman versus Batman, I went with Superman.
Easy votes for Spider-man (my favorite character) and Rorschach (don’t like GL). I also went with Logan over Darkseid even though I care little for either character.

Easiest choices thus far, and also the most positive that none of my choices will actually win. I’m okay with that.
I like Superman much more than Batman.
I like Green Lantern SO much more than Spider-Man
I don’t have any affection for Wolverine, and Darkseid is awesome.
Sorry, but Rorschach just shouldn’t be in the room with the rest of the names mentioned. Kyle by a wide margin, and he might actually pull this one off. >HURM!<

I starting to lose interest here, with nearly all the good characters gone. At least Spider-Man remains, but that’s not too surprising. He always perserveres.

Batman (who kicked Superman’s ass in DKR and DKSA), Rorschach, Spider-man, and Darkseid (sorry, Logan — but a demi-god will always defeat a semi-immortal guy).

I’m disappointed by the modern choices. I don’t mind Kyle or Rorschach, but it was a huge disappointment that JC lost.

That Rorschach made it this far is ridiculous. He’s good for what he is, but he’s become the most overrated character in the past few years or so.

One one of these gave me pause, and that was Superman vs Batman. Considering them purely on Golden Age appearances I’d be inclines to go with Superman as the better character of the two, Superman’s first apperance was raw but brilliant, while I’d say Batman was as much a Phantom/Zorro knockoff but on the development of the characters over the past 70 years Batman has developed more as a character in his own right that sustains so many different intepretations, I don’t believe the same could be said of Superman, if anything I think he’s gone backwards and has almost become a cliche of himself.
So who did I vote for; I a’int tellin’

Akthough I will say that Hal Jordan has always been a childhood favourite with the best costume and power to boot. Retconning the Parallax storyline was the best thing to happen to Hal, and long overdue.

I’m holding out hope that Darksied will take Wolvie, but I’m not betting on it.
The others – Batman, Spider-Man and Rorschach.
All the pissing and moaning about Mr. Kovacs is really cracking me up.

it’s all in the seeding: I wouldn’t have voted for Rorschach against anybody else in this round, but against Kyle (who I like…)
Supes (he’s the 1 in every way), Rors, Spidey, Logan
Once we’re done, lets do it again w/different seeding – and see how far Hulk gets (seriously, he shoulda done better)

yeah Wolverine vs. Darkseid? Darkseid please! And as much as I like Watchmen and am not a Rayner fan, Rorschach was a useful one-note character who modern writers (and fans) totally misunderstand. He’s a satire folks! Moore was shocked when all this grim and gritty crap started and those creators were calling their comics ‘odes to Watchmen’.

Batman, Rorschach, Spidey, Wolveriine.
Superman is one of my favorite characters, but not as complicated or developed as Bruce.
Rorschach is such a character of his convictions it’s really hard to not like him.
Spidey’s everyman personality is so compelling.
Wolvie’s, like Bruce, is so complex and just loaded with storytelling possibilities.

It’s intriguing that we may see a character who sparsely appeared in comics (Rorschach) vs. the most over-exposed character of the 20th/21st centuries (Wolverine)…
@TOM (or anybody really): Isn’t the evidence *against* Superman beating Batman in a fight? In all of the Superman vs. Batman stories told over the years, I can think of only time Superman has *ever* really beaten Batman (I’m thinking of their fight in the “Sacrifice” storyline where Supes is brainwashed by Maxwell Lord and kicks the crap out of Bats). Any others I’m forgetting? Otherwise it’s Batman all the way. Even Frank Miller’s classic Dark Knight Returns fight at the lamppost where Batman “loses” has a twist at the end that implies Batman really won.

in a fair fight between Superman & Batman, Superman wins everytime.
EVERYTIME!
He’s Superman after all. The only reason that we never really see Supes win is that he is never really trying all that hard. i mean, come on, the most resourceful & determined human being in the world vs. a guy who has so many powers that he has to limit himself just to exist on a world with such fragile beings.
Only Supes inherent goodness and willingness to put up with Bats [as well as DC needing to keep things 'fair'] have prevented Bats from ending up being a smear on the wall when he & Supes tangle.
Bats is awesome and an awesome character, but in a fight where each is using all their abilities, bet on the Big Guy.

Superman…sorry Bats but all the love for you by fanboys actually has turned me against you…it has gotten to the point where you put Bats against God, Bats would win decisively (see Morrison)
Spidey hands down….even with all the muck ups involving the marriage, I still can’t get over Hal’s characterization…..even with his “redeeming”
Wolverine barely over Darkseid…I freely admit that if this was 2 years ago this vote would go the other way….
Kyle over Ro….come on, this was a no contest…I mean one’s a dreamer, the other is a racist…sheesh
