That last panel is very well the most appropriate statement (or tagline) for this strip.

Half is funny and half is not.
Half is terrible and half is not.

and so on.

You get the idea. ;-)

This is exactly how all comic related conversations go in my house.

Yeah, I couldn’t give two turds about Bleach or Nick Simmons.

I don’t care much about Bleach, but I care very much about plagiarism and copyright infringement.

That said, I’ve had conversations where I’m in Boyfriend’s position so very often, so this strip rung very true to me.

It reached a point where Simmonsing has become a verb on anime related boards.

But actually when discussing Bleach, most people just complain about the plot and the lack of backgrounds…

Also I would like to know where are those people complaining about scanlations, because the only debate I see about them is “where to find them”.

Yeesh, this strip. Words words words words words words weak punchline. I want to like this strip, but work harder guys. Painful stuff.

Yeah, fewer words, more pictures!

But…that was the point. It was a joke about the overdetail that nerds give to an explanation of some nerd thing. Brilliant!

so is it a genre or not?

I’ve never heard about any of the stuff he is discussing, but I would think that differences in copyright law in Japan would be extremely relevant.

I always enjoy this strip, because I know at the end of it, regardless of the quality or relevance of the specific comic, there will be a whole thread of people bitching and complaining about every possible aspect of it. As Dalarasco points out, judging by fan reaction it’s apparently less of a comic strip and more of an interactive meta-commentary on comic fandom, where by reading it you yourself become the punchline.

Keep complaining, everyone. You’re elevating this comic into the realm of genius.

I hope it was clear I was kidding, even if I didn’t use sarcasm tags. I don’t know how you describe the vicious cycle the comic describes in fewer words. For that matter, I don’t know if Mr. Poehler is one of the constant complainers or just has problems with this strip.

This strip isn’t in my top 10, but of the dozen or so that I don’t get a chuckle out on rereading, it’s not one of those either. I don’t know if any strips have elicited a sincere complaint out of me. Prove me wrong, kids! Prove me wrong.

By the way, Sean, there’s something I wanted you to know. It’s been a few weeks since the strip ran, and my wife and I are still quoting “You know my feelings on the goyim using Yiddish.”

One of us says it pretty much every time my (non-Jewish) wife says a Yiddish word around (Jewish) me, which is something that happens surprisingly often.

Seriously, it’s like a Simpsons quote in our house.

Don’t listen to these commenters, the dialog is funny.

‘And everyone else quickly agrees this has no relevance to the situation’.

GOLD!

These should be blog posts rather than comics

But they’re more fun as comics

Absolutely, positively nailed this head on! God I have been on both sides of the convo…lol

The lettering is all fuzzy. It’s straining my eyes to try and bring it into focus.

Well I don’t think people would complain if the punchline isn’t the same “why complain about comics” message that comes ever other installment.

I like “the cartoon network”.

This one was weak
