Legendary comic book writer J.M. DeMatteis (whose blog you can read here) has a new children’s novel coming out from HarperCollins in two weeks (June 29th). While the book is not out until then, today you can read the first SIX chapters (plus a bit of the seventh) here! Pretty cool of them, huh?
A Year of Cool Comics – Day 165
Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the moments posted so far! Today [...]
I Love Ya But You’re Strange #2
This is the second in a series (of indefinite length and regularity) of pieces looking at instances in comic book history where somewhat strange occurrences took place. The slightly odd stuff like, say, Luke Cage telling Doctor Doom “Where’s my money, honey” after Doctor Doom stiffs him on a gig. Stuff that is not BAD, [...]
A review a day: The Executor
Here’s a new one of them there Vertigo crime novels that has an interesting hook and then goes lots of nifty ways with it. That’s always cool to see!
She Has No Head! – 10 Webcomics I Love
I have a love/hate thing with webcomics. On the one hand there are some damn fine cartoonists and writers putting out some damn fine comics for free and what could be better than that? On the other hand there are about a zillion webcomics out there that are really really bad and it can be [...]

RIP Al Williamson
The news has gone around the Twitter-sphere (from people who were close friends to the Williamson family) that legendary artist Al Williamson has passed away. I’ve written here more than once about how great Williamson was (most recently came during a look at his Star Wars strips with the similarly late, great Archie Goodwin), and [...]

A review a day: Solomon’s Thieves Book One
If you don’t like stories set in medieval times, I just don’t know if we can be friends anymore. Sorry, but that’s the way it is!
Sunday Brunch: 6/13/10
I bought a sexy new computer yesterday. I’m writing this on its decade-older cousin, however, because it’s hard to blog when your only available monitor (er, besides this one) is the TV. Doin’ it old school! QUESTION OF THE WEEK: I forgot all the good questions I was going to ask. So what’s a question [...]
A Year of Cool Comics – Day 163
Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! A review a day: Forget Sorrow: An Ancestral Tale
Ahhhh! A coming-of-age story! Okay, not completely, but still, I should hate this, right? Don’t I hate all coming-of-age stories?

Friday in the YA Library
Full disclosure: this isn’t really about comics. But it brushes up against them, and also animated cartoons, in a couple of places.
