The Line it is Drawn #2, 8/10/10

Let’s get the standard stuff out of the way.

You should follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi and Michelle Smith!

The blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. Plus, if we reach 2,000 followers, I’ll do an extra edition of Comic Book Legends Revealed the week we hit 2,000. At 3,000 followers, I will do another Month of Greatest Stories Ever Told!

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SIX blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week.

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (all suggestions due by 11:59 PM Eastern on Thursday, August 12th):

Last week I asked you to do a mash-up between a Marvel Comics property and a Walt Disney property. Well, this time around let’s do the same with a DC Comics property and a Warner Brothers property. Besides the Looney Tunes characters AND the Hanna-Barbera characters, here is a list of all Warner Brothers films. To help, here are some especially notable films by Warner Brothers: The Maltese Falcon, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Little Caesar, Scarface, Casablanca, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Big Sleep, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, A Streetcar Named Desire, East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, The Searchers, Ocean’s Eleven, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, Bonny and Clyde, Cool Hand Luke, The Wild Bunch, Bullitt, The Clockwork Orange, Deliverance, The Exorcist, Blazing Saddles, The Outlaw Josey Wales, A Star is Born, The Shining, Caddyshack, Police Academy, Full Metal Jacket, Lethal Weapon, The Matrix…really, the list is practically endless.

Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge:

Come up with a cool combination of a Marvel Comics property with a Walt Disney property.

Pretty darn awesome, guys!

Thanks so much to the artists and the suggestion-givers! Now everyone head off to Twitter and give them some good options for next week!

I’m so glad one of you guys did Kim Possible: Agent of SHIELD. And that it turned out so AWESOME. :o)

Yeah, that was pretty insanely good, Erich.

Great stuff this week! Fantastic job on Kim Possible, Erich, makes me glad I didn’t pick that one myself.

Hey, thanks guys!

Damn Erich, that is bad ass!

Holy crap, you guys.

Wow. These all look amazing…but that Kim Possible Agent of S.H.E.I.L.D. is AMAZING.

Wonderful stuff, all. My favorite is the FF/Incredibles sketch; it’s the most inevitable of them all, but Irizarri just packs it with individual characterization.

Yeah, I don’t even know what Kim Possible is but that picture makes me want to watch it. Totally looks better than pro!

Awesome drawings. The artists knocked every idea out of the park.

I’ll simply repeat the whole “I don’t have Twitter… Heck, don’t even have a cell phone” bit and then repeat the “can we please make suggestions here as well” question.

Yeah, most of these were pretty amazing.

Chernabog/Thanos has to be my favourite.

Erich is the standout this week, that is phenomenal.

Excellecent work from Caanan again, but I do think (and I realise the time constraints on this kind of work, so I am not trying to be harsh, just honest) that it’s a little busy, especially without colour. I do think coloured, this work would have been better, it’s a little confusing in black and white. I understand that it should be a frenetic scene, but a little more definition would help it out.

Wow, I should have reread my comments before posting…. That was a terribly constructed bit of feedback…

Thanks, Oz. I agree – I WAS going for crazy busy as I did intend to colour it, but too much work came in at the last minute. At its original size (14 x 17 inches) it looks a little less busy. You can barely see Iron Man fighting the harpies in the little netty version. :)

Some helpful colorist should help us out and color Caanan’s piece for him so we can see the difference!

If anyone wants to give it a shot, feel free to e-mail the finished product to bcronin@comicbookreasources.com!

Kim Possible was great. Incredibles FF would be great too but WHERE is FRANKLIN! (Notice I don’t mind the missing Valeria.)

[…] Another Comics Should Be Good sketch off went up yesterday at CBR. This time I got to draw the Incredibles fighting alongside the Avengers! Check it out. […]

I’ll add my voice to the Kim Possible Agent of SHIELD is amazing choir. Brilliantly done Erich.

I also love FF/Incredibles. Someone pointed out how good the characterizations are and I agree 100%. I am eagerly awaiting their eventual first meeting!

The art itself is amazing but the story-telling is what really sells that Kim Possible piece. Ron is perfect.

I like the FF/Incredibles one too. I think the actual art is a little rough, but the characters and scene make it work. I think Violet in that scene is my favorite.

[…] more check out the CSBG article.  Hell, check out the entire site.  I recommend Chad Nevett and Greg Hatcher. Categories: […]

Mr. Cronin, would you write the Kim Possible Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D when it comes out? Because damn… that is such an on point idea that you know someone in Marvel is pitching it as we speak…

Trademark it NOW! =)

Of all the mash-ups – I like the Kim Possible: Agent of Shield most….

Marvel, Disney, Take a hint, introduce Kim Possible into the Marvel Universe and make her a SHIELD Agent.

Kudos for coming up with some interesting suggestions.

The KP one is very nicely done (not too keen on the mole rat’s eyelashes, though).

Just for giggles, you can check out my old Wolverduck (Donald as Wolverine) from years back, before Disney was even in the discussion of a buyout of Marvel, at my website.

If you don’t know the site, just click on my name.

Can I add my name to the “They are all brilliant” choir?

Yes I can

I have no words for that Kim Possible pic. Wow. The colouring just makes it POP!

PS: Okay, apparently I had a few words. Shut up.

Thanks, Everybody for the kind words!! I’m thrilled that you guys* enjoy my artwork!

Louis, those are his whiskers, he doesn’t have eyelashes :o)

*guys is a general term meaning everybody, including you girls

LOVElovelove that Kim Possible: Agent of SHIELD art piece (though shouldn’t Ron’s pants be around his ankles? :-)).

Now, can we get Drakken and Shego as members of HYDRA?

How did they forget Gargoyles? They would fit perfectly in the Marvel Universe.

man, did the kim possible pic really knock it out of the park! generally speaking i loved all the contributions and i can totally accept that mine was a bit rough around the edges. (its how i work, plus there were SO many elements to that drawing.

Wow, my brain all sorts of impolded

Steve, that’s funny! I totally forgot about the pants.

Those are supposed to be his whiskers? They look like eyelashes to me, obviously. I thought he only had two whiskers on each cheek and one was longer than the other on each side… *shrugs* The differences in artistic and visual interpretation. No big deal.

I love how all these sketches are turning out and I can’t wait till next week. Great job guys

surprised no one did “Beauty & Beast”

Wow, Kim Possible Agent of SHIELD is AWESOME.

Let me add my voice to the chorus of praise for Kim Possible, Agent of SHIELD. But the others were also nicely done. I esp. thought the Donald Duck one was cute, and I love the expression on Violet’s face in the Incredibles/FF.

I loved the art but I woulda really liked an Ant Man and Tinkerbell! All of you artists get a slap on the back from me.I lol’d at the Mickey and Dormannu one.

Iron-Man + Gizmo-Duck. That is all.

the Kp one was amazing! and FF4 With Inc. i would love to see a cross over of those two. for FF4 a nice funny one. and for kp they should totally throw Kp Into marvel. but like hard core version of her self XD. and fans can finally see kp and ron in bed. lol

Holy cow, these are even BETTER than the last batch!! O_O
About the only one I didn’t like so much was Snow White and She-Hulk, it looks a little mean but maybe that’s just me. The Kim Possible one definitely was the best drawn and I’m not even a KP fan! Also Thanosbog RULES. If Disney has half a brain it will do a crossover like these (maybe ala DC/Marvel’s Amalgam Comics project?)

How is the FF/Impossibles not everyone’s favorites?? Look at Johnny and Dash! I think Dash is probably winning…look at that smirk. Daniel, you rock.

I wish I could own all of these for my walls. They’re awesome all around.

@Robert: thanks! and yeah i totally invisioned Dash winning, and johnny getting frustrated and hot-headed about it. kids today are videogame experts like i never was.

thanks again!

Kim Possible: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D is just brilliant. I also love the “comix” style of the Mickey meets Dormammu one.

Really really great stuff, all around. This might turn into my new favorite feature.

@Stephen Bergstrom… Dude that JLAToons vs Aven-Disney print is NUTS!!! Ahem…Marvel? DC? This is one crossover that needs to be fast tracked!!! =)

Thanks, Chris!

Hey Everybody, I finally colored my FF/Atomic Robo pic from last week. You can check it out here: http://erich0823.deviantart.com/#/d2wb32g

Woohoo. My suggestion got picked. That’ll teach Mickey to mess wth the dark arts.

Awesome job on all of them but I’ll pretty much echo the chorus here and say the Kim Possible one is my favorite.

I’m looking forward reading all the scan pages of the Disney comics featuring Mickey as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice from my childhood do them if you will, I’m be glad to thanks.
