The Line it is Drawn #3, 8/17/10
Let’s get the standard stuff out of the way.
You should follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi and Michelle Smith!
The blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. Plus, if we reach 2,000 followers, I’ll do an extra edition of Comic Book Legends Revealed the week we hit 2,000. At 3,000 followers, I will do another Month of Greatest Stories Ever Told!
Now on to the bit!
So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SIX blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week.
To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (all suggestions due by 11:59 PM Eastern on Thursday, August 19th):
One of our own sketch artists, Caanan, came up with this one – Comic book characters mashed up with Saturday morning cartoon characters…Snorks meet Aquaman, stuff like that.
Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge:
Come up with a cool combination of a DC Comics property with a Warner Brothers property.
Enjoy!
I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.
All copyright and trademarks of the following characters are held by their respective owners!

I really like the robin without a cause, and clockwork orange vs batman.
I actually made a droog vs batman cover a few weeks ago.

Crazy stuff.
Oh and I also have to love Harry Potter and Etrigan, that’s just perfect.

Erich, you’re a madman. And Rafael, that is a super dynamic sketch. Love it. Kinda obvious to say, but… they’re all great! Love Harry’s wand effect.
Thanks for picking my suggestion for next week, Brian!

Awesome stuff. My favorite is a tie between the Lord of the Rings corps by Erich and the Robin without a Cause by Canaan.

Mine got picked! (Harry Potter and Etrigan) That’s pretty awesome. I’d like to purchase that piece if the artist has the original artwork. Its hard to tell if its digital or not but if it is I must have it.

Second those two choices, Neil, especially Robin. I would love to see someone do a story of THAT Batman and Robin.

Batman vs Alex from CO is going to last two seconds, tops.
WHOA! That Fellowship of the Rings art is AMAZING! O_O
In general, once again a nice, whimsical batch of drawings. Damn, these people should be working in mainstream comics… maybe we’d all remember comics are supposed to be *FUN* then!

Every week I am really impressed with the art. My favorite concept this week was Alex from A Clockwork Orange and Batman. It would have been cool to add some sort of Beethoven reference in the drawing though, Beethoven’s music is such a big part of the movie. Another possibility would be to give a reference to “singing in the rain” another important song in the movie.
Daniel did a great job with the want effect, it looks really cool.
I like what the artist did with Fellowship of the Rings. The drawing could have gone many different ways, but I like what he did and the coloring is fantastic too.

But who is Leonidas?

Leonidas is the main character from the movie “300″
DC2 Omniverse

Wow… I had all three picked! I’m humbled and honored and there is just some amazing work here, guys. Take a bow – all of yah. In light of so many of mine being picked this time, I’m going to sit out this week’s. It wouldn’t be fair for me to run the chance of hogging somebody else’s idea if I got picked again.

300 was a comic before it was a movie.
These are all really cool. I am in awe, man.

Best art is the Demon Harry Potter one.

No problem, Oz. It’s always great to hear when you’re doing something that people actually like! Trust me.
DC2 Omniverse – definitely don’t sit it out. The more suggestions we, the pool of artists, get the better. Otherwise we might end up drawing things we’re not familiar with, using tiny google images for reference. No fun! Comment away! The more the merrier!
To get the imagination rolling, I got some examples for next week -
The Wasp visiting Smurfette for tea.
The Jetsons meet the Legion.
Deadpool catching Pokemon.
Astro Boy meets Power Pack.
Blade chasing Count Duckula.
She-Ra meets Wonder Woman.
and more…! It’s up to you! And thanks for all the great comments, too.

The 300 Spartans was a movie before it was a comic. And even before that it happened in real life.
Great drawings though.

I have to say that the design for the Rebel Without a Cause illustration was fantastic. Batman and Robin tell so much with their posture and the choice of color was great. I really like it. Great job Caanan.

Canaan’s is amazing. The Leonidas vs Claw and Fellowship of the Rings are tied for second for me. The rest are great as well. I’m loving this new feature.

Canaan Grail’s “Robin Without a Cause” is just amazing. Not just well-executed but really well-conceived.
I like the art in the “Fellowship of the Rings” piece, though I was hoping for the artist to riff on the multi-colored lanterns. Bringing together different ringslingers would be much truer to Tolkien’s idea of having several races band together under Gandalf to fight Sauron.

Is it wrong to actually want to see all those Fellowship Green Lanterns be in the new Emerald Warriors comic instead of Guy?

In terms of Saturday Morning Cartoons mashed up with DC, I would love to see the Krypto join the Mystery Machine Gang from Scooby-Doo.

Robin without a Cause is a good drawing, but I don’t think Caanan Grall has any idea what the movie is actually about.
