The Line It Is Drawn #12 – Comic Book/Video Game Mash-Ups

Let’s get the standard stuff out of the way.

You should follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi and Michelle Smith!

The blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account. As an incentive to follow us, if we reach 2,000 followers, I’ll do an extra edition of Comic Book Legends Revealed the week we hit 2,000. At 3,000 followers, I will do another Month of Greatest Stories Ever Told!

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SIX blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week.

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (all suggestions due by 11:59 PM Eastern on Thursday, October 21st):

The topic for this week is in honor of Halloween – team-up/mash-up a non-horror comic book character with a famous horror character (either from film, television, novels or comics).

Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge:

Comic book character/video game character team-up/mash-up. So, Sonic the Hedgehog racing the Flash, stuff like that.

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

This was a big week for BigMike20X6, who suggested nearly HALF of the chosen suggestions this week (and we got a LOT of suggestions this week)…

First, he suggested:

Simon Belmont teams with Hellboy

Daniel Irizarri is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

Next, he suggested:

Deadpool & Duke Nukem

George Zapata is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

He ALSO suggested a suggestion that someone ELSE suggested, and THAT person ALSO had another suggestion!

That other person is shurwitt. Both he and BigMike20X6 suggested:

Galactus vs. Pac-Man.

Chaz Folgar is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

shurwitt‘s OTHER suggestion was:

Dig-Dug Meets the Mole Man.

Caanan Grall is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

seemill/a> suggested:

Kraven The Duck Hunter

Brad Millette is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

Thanks so much to the artists and the suggestion-givers! Now everyone head off to Twitter and give them some good options for next week!

NOTE: If you wish to participate in the November Reader Art Gallery, you have plenty of time to do so! The deadline to send your artwork (based on any of the previous The Line It Is Drawn topics, although I’d prefer you to choose ones from October) to me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com is 6pm Eastern time on Thursday, November 11th!

Dig-Dug Meets the Mole Men is very nice. This is one of my favorite collections so far.

I like the Hellboy one, even though I have no idea who the video game guy is (but that’s ok, I lost track of video game characters after about, oh, Sega Genesis stuff). The rest all are pretty cool looking too.

Travis, Simon Belmont is from the Castlevania series….

Who knew that Dig Dug meeting Mole Men would have an aura of “The Descent”?

I admit I laughed out loud at the Duke/Deadpool mashup….

But the winner for me this week is that Iron Fist/Tekken joint… Um Marvel is it too late to include Iron Fist in the latest Marvel vs Capcom game??? I am drooling at the thought of a Ken/Ryu/Chun-Li vs Iron Fist/Luke Cage/Misty Knight tussle…..

The deadpool mashup is genius.

Brilliant stuff guys! The Pac-Man Galactus is almost like a Lichtenstein Pop poster. The Deadpool gag is spot on, breaking the fourth wall and all. Kraven is HUGE! You wouldn’t want to meet him in a field of grass, especially since he seems to have run out of ducks. ‘Ducks no challenge for Kravinoff! Bah!’ That Hellboy is awesome, Daniel. You always make great choices on the limited colour palette. And the iron Fist is just plain dynamic.

Man, this feature is fun! :D

Hellboy/Belmont and Deadpool/Duke made me laugh out loud. College’s are starting to look at me funny…
And how can you not love a duck-hunting Kraven :)

a solid effort all around. I think my favorite this week was Hellboy/Simon Belmont.

I love how utterly distressed Galactus is!

Great job everybody!

wow, caanan, the color palette was purely me dealing with a dead wacom and trying to make up for coloring, so i guess it was a bit of luck then that the hellboy/ simon piece turned out kinda nice. : )

seriously though, it was great to work on these again! the 2 weeks i was out sucked, really. but now that i’m more or less back on track, everything is good again. Its nice to be part of this little group of artists cuz i can tell that for everybody else it is just as fun as it is for me.

George’s Deadpool/ Nukem piece is fantastic in how he flips everything in its head very nicely! i’d love to see him render it in those bold bright colors he usually does. Chaz is fitting right in with his entries, showing a great sense of humor and a love for the source material Caanan basically did hollywood’s job for them, for whenever they finally do the gritty realistic version of “Dig-dug” and it really does look fantastic. I have no idea why you’d compliment my limited colors when you’ve obviously mastered it.

Brad’s piece is everyone’s inner most wishes displayed on paper through kraven. I don’t think i’ve ever seen an artist draw kraven like brad has, and it looks fantastic! like a jungle brute. this is a kraven that’ll hunt with his hands and teeth if he has to. last but not least Iron Fist kicking ass in the King of the Iron Fist tournament! I only wish i could have seen more of Jin Kazama’s broken face from the punch.

great week, guys. My rant is done. : )

All around great job, everybody. George, very funny & creative! Brad, we’ve all wanted to do that to that damn dog. The hat was a nice touch.

Fantastic job, you guys!!! Really solid work!!!!

This might be the best batch yet. Great work by everyone.

All of these are great, but I especially like the Kraven/Duck Hunt mashup. I wanted to do exactly the same thing to that stupid dog many, many years ago.

I am just loving this feature, and this week is no exception. Of course all my suggestions were old games from the 1980s because I’m a million years old, but hey, we got a brilliant Dig Dug illustration out of it. I’m thrilled with Pac-Man/Galactus too, and not surprised that I wasn’t alone in suggesting it.

I’m kind of surprised to see no Lara Croft in the mix, but maybe everyone assumed that everybody else was gonna suggest her.

Great work everyone!

I love doing this every week.

Week after week it is just awesome to come back and see these ideas come to life.

Rafael Desquitado’s brushes are really neat on his Iron Fist piece. I’ve just been staring at the brush he used around Iron Fist’s…fist. It’s beautiful.

Oh, and Chaz…. adding Ms Pac-Man to the fray was brilliant.

Best mash-ups yet. I laughed out loud at Dead-Pool/Duke Nukem and Kraven the Duck Hunter.

Belmont and Hellboy: Very well drawn, but others this week were funnier.

Deadpool vs Duke Nukem: Meh. Don’t care much for Deadpool; would’ve preferred to see Duke kick his ass. Still, points for originality.

Pac-Man vs Galactus: OK HERE we go! Trippy art for a trippy crossover! :D Yet accurate to both the games and the Kirby versions. Hah!

Hey, Dig-dug! There’s a fun character I haven’t seen in a ages! And yeah, makes perfect sense with Mole Man. The art is a little weird but still, effective. :)

Kraven the Duck Hunter: Oh yeah I wanted to kill that dog too. The art also has a sort of Yellow Submarine touch which I dig.

Iron Fist vs Tekken: This disappointed me in that we see Fist both not the other guy well. Well drawn however.

Overall, I liked Folgar’s the best this week, but all are great. Congratulations and thanks for sharing your talents with us. :)
