A Month of Cover Theme Games #1
Every day this month, I’ll give you a new cover theme game! If you don’t know the game by now, it works like this: I’ll show you three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, a locale, a creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!” etc.
In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.
If you come up with an answer that works outside of what I intended, I’ll give you credit (well, provided I think it fits, of course).
One more thing – if there are floating heads on the cover, ignore them! They don’t mean anything!
If you think you know the answer, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com. Don’t answer in the comments. This way, people who check in at different times of the day can still get credit for answering it correctly! After two days, I’ll post the people who answered today’s game correctly! Here is the list of all the games, along with the answers to each one (after two days go by, of course).
Good luck and enjoy!

Hey, one of the covers changed! Fortunately that doesn’t affect my guess at all, tho.

I figured I’d make it a bit more straightforward.

I love the cover theme games, despite hardly ever knowing what the theme is. I’m glad to see it back.

They’re all Marvel comics?
I have a feeling this game is going to make me feel like an idiot

They all have a cross, of sorts?

I’m not sure about Jungle Action but I’m guessing it’s something to do with a character de-aging.
I know Silverman did. And there was a super powered kid in Project Pegasus which is ringing a bell. The Panther one I’m not sure about.

I was going to say “they’re all drawn by someone named John” but that looks like a Gil Kane cover.
So I’ll just say “they all feature someone who came back to life”: Silvermane, Iron Fist and a bunch of zombies.
Happy New Year!

i would also go with all three having to do with death and resurection for you have spider man and black panther dealing with corpses and iron fist looking to try and avoid one. plus iron fist silvermane and zombies running around were all rising or got brought back from death

Remember, folks, don’t give your answers in the comments section. E-mail them to me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com

Sorry, I didn’t read the preamble. No more random guesses in the comments!

John Byrne could never draw a normal looking child.

“Three comics that have never been in my kitchen?”
I am English, and feel very proud to have understood that reference to a TV show from 20 years ago.

Sorry about that.

Will you post the answers somewhere?

Yeah, when can we all find out the answer?
I remember when you used to do this, and that was always the frustrating part. Do I have to keep coming back to this article to find out if you’ve put up the answer?
Maybe once you’ve revealed it, you could put the answer in the next “Month of Cover Theme Games” post and with maybe a link to this one so I can look at the covers again. Otherwise, it seems kind of pointless unless I know the answer. “Look, here’s three covers. Know the common theme? No? Well, never mind, forget you saw them.”

Along with “don’t post your answers in the comment section,” I guess “After two days, I’ll post the people who answered today’s game correctly!” has been missed, too.
Seriously, though, when #3 goes up, the answers to #1 will go up, when #4 goes up, the answers to #2 will go up, etc. etc. etc.

I’m guessing the answer to #1 will come out with #3, what with the whole “after two days” thing, but we shall see!

So pretty much ANY 3 covers with these characters would do? Hmmm. I’d have never guessed it, based on these 3 covers…

Well, at least I was right that one of those covers was by Gil Kane.

I like that the very first of this month’s Cover Theme Games features covers where ALL of the obvious answers mentioned above apply, including “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!”

Just saw the answer…that is very cool.

If you can change the cover, and the game still works, then the theme doesn’t really have anything to do with the covers at all, does it?

That doesn’t follow at all. It never says that these are the only three covers in the whole history of comics that fit this theme. Far from it.
