A Month of Cover Theme Games #4

Every day this month, I’ll give you a new cover theme game! If you don’t know the game by now, it works like this: I’ll show you three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, a locale, a creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!” “They’re all dead (who HASN’T been killed off?)!” etc.

In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.

If you come up with an answer that works outside of what I intended, I’ll give you credit (well, provided I think it fits, of course).

One more thing – if there are floating heads on the cover, ignore them! They don’t mean anything!

If you think you know the answer, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com (make sure to write which number game you’re answering). Don’t answer in the comments. This way, people who check in at different times of the day can still get credit for answering it correctly! After two days, I’ll post the people who answered today’s game correctly! Here is the list of all the games, along with the answers to each one (after two days go by, of course).

Good luck and enjoy!

They’ve all filmed adult movies with Big Barda.

A Trap
A Zap
and a Flap

Um, they’re all awesome?

I was the only one who put John Stanley and Irving Tripp on my top 10 artists and writers, wasn’t I?

I’m 90% positive I’ve got this.

I was reviewing the answer for Game # 2. Admittedly, it’s been a few years since i’ve seen the Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer; but for the life of me I don’t remember any characters named Parasite, Blink and Taurus. Who were they? Background elves? Misfit toys? Since I won’t be able to see the show for 11 months, could you please add a little more info to the answer as this will drive me crazy.

Why does Jughead’s mother hate him?

@Palomides: It’s not those names (Parasite, Blink, Taurus) that correlate to the Rudolph characters, but those characters’ real names (specifically, their first names):

Parasite aka RUDOLPH Jones (the titular character of the special)
Blink aka CLARICE Ferguson (Rudolph’s girlfriend, IIRC)
Taurus aka CORNELIUS Van Lunt (Yukon Cornelius, the prospector).

Hmm an issue of Superman which I will have read, but with nothing distinctive on the cover, an issue of a comic I’ve never read and an issue of a comic I’ve never heard of.

I don’t think I’m going to get this one.

“It tickles”

Jughead looks a little…impaired.

For some reason, I feel like the three goofy grins are connected. But, I can’t think of how.

Besides, it is never that obvious.

Theno

Thanks, I didn’t get that

They all have a smile?

I have an answer for this one. It’s probably not the “right” answer, but I’ve sent my email anyway.

I have never gotten one of these in my many years reading this site. This is the first time I have ever even been able to muster up a GUESS at an answer, so let’s see how it goes.

This one’s driving me crazy

Yeah, me too. I have a lot of thoughts about it, but most of them are way too broad.

T, you’re doing better than me. Haven’t ever even had a decent guess at any of these – good luck.

Yeah, me too. I have a lot of thoughts about it, but most of them are way too broad.

Now I’m thinking my guess was too obvious.

it’s decades!! Jughead is the Fifties – the price is a dollar and 50 cents

Superman is the Forties – issue 440

and Tubby is the Sixties – cause there’s six ties (sixties) on the cover

I’m a genius!!!

Now I’m thinking my guess was too obvious.

I’m starting to think we all had the same guess because I thought the same thing about mine.

The only characters on the cover are the title characters themselves.

@ dantecat:
Whether it’s the right answer or not, your guess is awe-inspiringly clever!

I’m starting to think we all had the same guess because I thought the same thing about mine.

Unless it turns out that Norm Breyfogle drew some Marge characters, I don’t see any other connecting thread.

That was a good one.

Thank goodness that’s over. My brain can relax now.

Woohoo! I’m new here (though I have visited a few times in the past), and got sucked in with this new game series. Huge comic fan, so it is a blast pulling random trivia out of my memory from 30 years of reading comics. Glad I got this one right!
