A Month of Cover Theme Games #6

Every day this month, I’ll give you a new cover theme game! If you don’t know the game by now, it works like this: I’ll show you three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, a locale, a creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!” “They’re all dead (who HASN’T been killed off?)!” etc.

In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.

If you come up with an answer that works outside of what I intended, I’ll give you credit (well, provided I think it fits, of course).

One more thing – if there are floating heads on the cover, ignore them! They don’t mean anything!

If you think you know the answer, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com (make sure to write which number game you’re answering). Don’t answer in the comments. This way, people who check in at different times of the day can still get credit for answering it correctly! After two days, I’ll post the people who answered today’s game correctly! Here is the list of all the games, along with the answers to each one (after two days go by, of course).

Good luck and enjoy!

All I can say is that I own the Spider-Man comic. Otherwise, I got nothing.

First time I get it!

Somewhat of a rarity, I have actually read one of the books and recognize the main characters in the other two covers.

Has there ever been a better cover blurb than “Vampire In the White House!”???

Man, I HAVE that Prez issue and I still dunno!

The issue before that, Prez 3, has a cover that’s got his Indian friend looking up over Prez’s shoulder shouting “Sharpshooter!” that’s pretty goofy. But Vampire in the White House IS awesome.

Don’t have anything to add except, always loved that classic Romita Spider-Man drawing!

Prez #4 is one of the greatest comics ever printed.

Brian, these are great, but personally I’d like to see more modern covers, like in game #5. That way those of us who aren’t as well-versed in the older stuff could play too!

I have absolutely no idea.

What on earth is on the signs in the Spidey cover? One appears to read ‘Don’t stall…whore’.

Ah, the old face in the crowd. Now I want to come up with an alternate answer about the brown-haired campus activist who became a gangster after a stint in the army. He’s on all three covers, trust me.

Argh! I was so close.

What about the version Gaiman wrote for Batman Black and White? That’s got to count as alternate.

A face in the crowd?!!!! I’m clearly not digging deep enough…must try harder…

He’s right up front! And it’s not like he was a no-name, Randy is STILL a supporting cast member!

Oh yeah–Gaiman’s Black and White story–that’s gotta count Cronin. I want my credit!

Well, Prez was a dirty hippie like those Spider-protesters…
