A Month of Cover Theme Games #7

Every day this month, I’ll give you a new cover theme game! If you don’t know the game by now, it works like this: I’ll show you three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, a locale, a creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!” “They’re all dead (who HASN’T been killed off?)!” etc.

In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.

If you come up with an answer that works outside of what I intended, I’ll give you credit (well, provided I think it fits, of course).

One more thing – if there are floating heads on the cover, ignore them! They don’t mean anything!

If you think you know the answer, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com (make sure to write which number game you’re answering). Don’t answer in the comments. This way, people who check in at different times of the day can still get credit for answering it correctly! After two days, I’ll post the people who answered today’s game correctly! Here is the list of all the games, along with the answers to each one (after two days go by, of course).

Good luck and enjoy!

This one is a bit easier than the last few days. Good luck!

Considering the first two, I’m guessing that all the people in each of the covers are related.

I’d say one character in each cover has led a team.

Man, this is an EASIER one? Oh lord have mercy.

I hope it is, because I’m gonna send in a guess…

Who’s the black-clad girl in the Power Girl cover? PG’s evil twin?

Could the link be….slash fiction?

the black costume lady with power girl is donna troy. my guess is the covers deal with two people who at first can not stand each other like Juggernaut and xavier and power girl and donna, and Nova and namorita only to later wind up working together.

Why is Donna Troy wearing a bra and some kind of PVC pants instead of her “star field” uniform? And why does she look exactly like Power Girl, only with dark hair?

Seriously, if you look at the outline of Donna’s and PG’s hair, their shape is exactly the shame. Looks like the artist just drew one woman, made a mirrored copy of the pic, and drew different clothes on the mirror image. Is the cover supposed to be making some point about similarity between the two (as far as I know they’re not related), or was the artist just lazy?

Tuomas: Neither–that’s not Donna Troy but a new character called Divine. She’s a clone of Power Girl created by Sivana.

Haha, I just sent an answer to this game based on the assumption that it was Donna Troy. But funnily enough that same answer applies to Donna *and* Divine. I hope Cronin will be lenient with me…

I’d want the link to have something to do with Atlantis, but I’m sure PG and readers alike would like to forget about that little chapter.

I don’t know the answer, but that New Warriors is one of the greatest issues ever!

Ok, that one WAS easier.

But hey, it said that the PG character had a connection to Sivana, and I thought that Rage in New Warriors was bald, so I don’t think my guess was SO horrible.

Ok, it was.

I just read the answers and I was shocked because I didn’t know that about Xavier.

Hasn’t “that” happened to Xavier a few times? What’s the most recent instance of “that” happening to him? Was it during Morrison’s run, or is it well before that?

I don’t know we HAVE to not say the answer since it’s up now, but I’ll dance around it.

It only happened once, Travis.

He’s had various other things happen to him over the years, but this specifically only happened the one time after the original Brood storyline.

And here I thought that was too obvious, given how many characters have had this happen to them in comics…this was the only time I’ve ever known the answer and I didn’t email…sigh.

Thanks, Brian. Yeah, it’s one of those things that, since I don’t follow XMen too regularly, when I hear about something like that, I go, didn’t that already happen? I’m probably thinking of the whole “I’m paralyzed, now I’m not, wait, I am again” aspect to the prof.

I’m kind of surprised no one went with a cousins-themed guess here – Juggs and Xavier are cousins, Namorita was long held as a cousin to Namor, and Kara was long believed to be a cousin to Superman. I believe it ultimately proved untrue in both the latter cases (I’m never sure exactly which origin PG is on anymore), but it was still a major factor in all these characters’ histories.

I thought of the cousins thing, but Prof X and Juggy are step brothers, not cousins.

Although, now I’m imagining that movie Step-Brothers with Prof X and Juggy instead of Will Ferrell and John C Reilly. hehehe

Hey! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My weblog looks weird when browsing from my apple iphone. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to fix this issue. If you have any suggestions, please share. Thank you!
