The Line It Is Drawn #22 – New Year’s Resolutions

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi and Michelle Smith!

The blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account. As an incentive to follow us, if we reach 2,000 followers, I’ll do an extra edition of Comic Book Legends Revealed the week we hit 2,000. At 3,000 followers, I will do another Month of Greatest Stories Ever Told!

Now on to the bit!

Welcome back, folks! We took a break over the holidays, but now we’ve returned!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SIX blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week.

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (all suggestions due by 8:00 PM Eastern on Saturday, January 8th – I want to get us back on schedule as soon as possible, hence the short amount of time).

The topic is – anthropomorphism! Simply come up with a comic book character and an animal, then our artists will draw a piece featuring that animal as that comic book character (to wit, a cat as Batman, a dog as Spider-Man, etc. etc. etc.)

Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge:

Come up with a New Year’s resolution for a comic book character, then our artists will draw that character dealing with their resolution

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

All copyright and trademarks of the following characters are held by their respective owners!

This was the B_Granderson and BigMike20X6 show this week! They submitted all six of the suggestions, including one suggestion that they actually BOTH suggested (which is really quite odd)!!

Here are BigMike20X6‘s…

Ghost Rider resolves to go green. Trades in his motorcycle for a mountain bike.

Caanan Grall is the artist for this one. Here is his website

Deadpool misunderstands the question and claims his resolution is 1080p

Chaz Folgar is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

Galactus resolves to be more mindful of his diet

Daniel Irizarri is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

(Click on the image to enlarge a teensy bit)

Now, the shared suggestion was as follows (B_Granderson’s was posted first, so I’ll show you his)…

batman resolving to not be so grim and gritty (maybe a pastel colored batman in 2011?)

Nick Perks is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

(Click on the image to enlarge)

I think Nick got the point across beautifully with just the expression on Bruce’s face, but Nick also did one with captions, in case you’d like to see that one, too. You can see it here.

Here are B_Granderson‘s other two suggestions…

thor resolving to next time just smack loki before he tries to trick him with some sort of scheme.

Rafael Desquitado is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

psylocke resolving not to say “focused totality of my powers” in 2011

Michael Magtanong is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

BigMike20X6 ALSO suggested:

Watcher resolves to watch less and read more.

George Zapata is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

Thanks to our artists and the suggestion-givers! Great job by everyone!

NOTE: If you wish to participate in the January Reader Art Gallery, I think I’ll push it back a few days this timr around, because I’m sure the holidays have delayed people a bit. So if you wish to participate, please send in your artwork (based on any of the previous The Line It Is Drawn topics, although I’d prefer you choose ones from December) to me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com by 6pm Eastern time on Monday, January 17th!

LMAO at Ghost Rider and Psylocke, but all are great.

Ghost Rider in shorts is something that I never knew I needed to see until now.

Maybe Batman can reapply that yellow oval again? I really miss that.

LOVE the ghost rider.

I really like the way Ghost Rider seems to be enjoying himself so much. A pleasant ride in the woods does that for me, too, and I’m not even a spirit of vengeance (usually).

Cargo shorts! Crocs! And the bike itself is rendered beautifully. Yeah, Mr. Grall wins this one.

Great work, guys. Hopefully I’m back to this for this next round.

Great stuff. Caanan’s Ghost Rider is so wonderful in every way… from concept to execution. He looks much happier. Love the green polo shirt. LOL.

Caanan, you never disappoint!

I love Ghost Rider’s serene expression. You can tell he’s really enjoying his new lifestyle.

I was kinda hoping the bike tires would be on fire though…

Pluto…the after dinner mint.

I was kinda hoping the bike tires would be on fire though…

That wouldn’t be very “green” of him to burn rubber tires like that! :)

Love it, love it, love it! What an awesome way to start off the year. All the pieces came out fantastic guys.

I also love the Ghost Rider one.

Sadly, you have to know his new serenity won’t last. As soon as he encounters a logging camp he’ll be back in the vengeance game.

Pwaha! Excellent pieces yet again! Way to start off the new year!

Great buncha suggestion givers and artists THE LINE has!

Can’t wait to see George’s piece!

Ghost Rider can’t be zero emissions with all that brimstone.

And Ha at that Crocs wearing hippie.

I was already loving this series of strips, but i just noticed that GR’s bike brand was Hellandback. Makes it even more awesome.

Also, Nick, love the various references for the costumes, esp the Superman Red & Blue suits

that is a great line up of pictures. everyone did a great job.

a warm welcome to michael! he did a great job on the psylocke piece!

as always, Nick and Caanan kill it.

chaz and raf’s pieces have been completely underrated, both have a ton of charm and a great sense of humor.

george’s late piece is awesome and as always, depressing. the watcher is watching all the time, and the one time shit goes down, he starts reading a book.

good week, guys!

Hey, Zapata’s picture is here now!

Yay, George made it! If you had have taken my first pick, then not done it, I would have been so MAD…! ;)

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I’m glad someone noticed the Hellandback logo. Like Diamondback, but hotter. My favourite is Daniel’s (as it seems to be, usually) – I love the design of the menu. It’s all in the details…

The expression on Nick’s Bruce Wayne is priceless. It’s hard to capture ‘Like, which one shall I wear toDAY?’ in one facial expression, but there it is. It IS possible.

Sorry for my delay everyone!! haha don’t worry Caanan I had that in the back of my mind too. Your Ghost Rider came out great so I like to think everything worked out for the best

All of these are absolutely amazing! Canaan’s art is just ridiculously good, and the ideas behind all of them are comedy genius :D

Ghost Rider is great, but also the Watcher, funny stuff :D

Yea, the Ghost Rider pic rules!

This is probably my favorite collection yet! Great work by all, but Ghost Rider stole the show.

They are all funny this time around. :) Though I find Batman’s expression kinda… disturbing. Maybe he’s hallucinating all those costumes, like in that Grant Morrison story.

My favorite one is Galactus, for going beyond the sight gag with funny text (and extra points for calling Pluto a “demi-planet!” :D )

PS. Is Psylock still using that phrase? Haven’t read X-Men in ages.

This is definitely the best one yet. Great job from every artist.

I agree, this is the best one. Ghost Rider’s definitely the highlight, but I love the Galactus one too, and they’re all fantastic.

Love the ghost rider by caanan…he is simply amazing in execution. Runner up as the most witty of the lot- Galatus and pluto, by Irizarri! I look forward to this column because i know I’ll get a smile and look at exceptional inspired peices. Thank you guys!

I am curious to find out what blog system you’re utilizing? I’m experiencing some minor security problems with my latest site and I’d like to find something more secure. Do you have any solutions?
