A Month of Cover Theme Games #12
Every day this month, I’ll give you a new cover theme game! If you don’t know the game by now, it works like this: I’ll show you three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, a locale, a creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!” “They’re all dead (who HASN’T been killed off?)!” etc.
In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.
If you come up with an answer that works outside of what I intended, I’ll give you credit (well, provided I think it fits, of course).
One more thing – if there are floating heads on the cover, ignore them! They don’t mean anything!
If you think you know the answer, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com (make sure to write which number game you’re answering). Don’t answer in the comments. This way, people who check in at different times of the day can still get credit for answering it correctly! After two days, I’ll post the people who answered today’s game correctly! Here is the list of all the games, along with the answers to each one (after two days go by, of course).
Good luck and enjoy!

Since no one has gotten yesterday’s yet (and come on, folks, it was even the theme of a past Top Five, using two of the three characters used!!!), I made this one by far the simplest one yet.

Man, your definition of simple and mine are apparently vastly different. Despite being stumped on every one so far, (and I thought I was a comic nerd!) I still love the Cover Theme Games.

Trust me, you know this one!!! You might not know that you know it, but you know it!

This is the first one I actually have a guess on.

Does each cover contain characters who were couples at one time or another? Because apparently, as evidenced at his funeral, every female character in the Marvel Universe had a chance with Sentry at one time or another…
I keep trying to make a joke about the first one, but they’ve been done before, and it’s just a really creepy place I don’t want to go to right now.

Dammit, my theory about James-Robinson-induced death was right! But I couldn’t find any evidence on him killing off Doll Man. Oh, it was in Golden Age, wasn’t it? Dammit.

I don’t have a guess, but I note that each is sort of a “B” list hero – member of the “B” list team and whatever other “B” puns/plays you care to make.

I sent in a guess. It seems too simple to actually be what Brian has in mind, but he did say this was the simplest yet. We’ll see in 2 days.

I also sent in a guess that seems way too obvious or general, but it’s all I could come up with.

Tigra looks like she’s getting a wedgie on that cover…

I don’t know what the answer is, but I’ve been having a great time going through the Top Five archives trying to figure out yesterday’s theme.

I’m just pleased someone at least considered it!

They all reference Shakespeare. Shakespeare wrote about killer robots named Ultron, right?

They are all spin-off series of something or another! Right…..right?

It was the Sentry cover you chose that pointed me in the right direction – was that meant to be a hint?

Yes, in the sense that I didn’t want one with that certain aspect visible on it (I found, like, two covers that worked).

Good one.
Matt N, that was my answer, too.

The thing that i hate about these is that there is so much to know about each character that to start to narrow down what they all share is overwhelming.
It would be so much easier if there was a hint directing us towards what area of the charecter[s] we are supposed to be looking at. Such as, ‘history’, ‘origin’, ‘relationships’, etc.
Nothing too specific, but a general direction. Without that, these are impossible for me.

Are they all characters that have mental instibility then?
